Hello! I started work on this thing a a couple of weeks ago. New to Go-Karting and welding, actually my first build. Anyhow......I spent all weekend finally putting the rest of the parts together onto the rolling chassis (earlier pics in the “Introduce Yourself” thread)
Motor, brake system, fuel system, pedals, the whole deal. I got it running and did a few laps in my driveway, and It was smiles all around! Except for the fact that the thing won’t turn very well, if at all. The little motor even struggles to propel the thing, even on level ground. It’s feels like the front wheels “lock up”, if that makes sense.
The wheels turn, albeit I have what I believe to be called “Anti-Ackerman”, and may need to adjust my tie rods to “toes out”. Aside from that, and I hate to be the new guy that just got here and is already asking for advice, but what am I doing wrong? What else can I do to improve my turning?Any advice?
Also, I’m not getting any leakage while running, but when I turn the engine off, the hose coming out the bottom of the carb bowl, which I believe is an overflow drain, dumps out a bunch fuel. I’m not 100% sure the carb was new when I got it, sure looked new. It’s a cheap China Sheng-Wey Pz-30 I believe? Anyhow what do you guys think? 13ADC659-1A57-49AC-BBDF-F47082D57448.jpegE90B0C02-6660-45ED-879F-F5FF0F8BDB09.jpegA4421AF5-F908-4C4C-8B19-3BA7BB4229AF.jpegD0D45B03-279A-4019-B1A6-CF146F7072BB.jpegF08B6AEC-37AC-498D-A026-1716E08CBEC3.jpeg92CAC2DC-218E-4D70-928E-ECAB76421B78.jpeg

Yeah, I figured. I’ll adjust my toes, and swap engines with a Predator 212. Already have it lined up. I’ll let you know how that goes. Thanks 0BA5608A-C192-403D-A170-962B187D5AAA.jpeg

I was not trying to be a jerk! I’m sorry if I came off that way. It is cool! I just wanted to give you helpful suggestions. That predator should wake things up a bit!

Yeah man, it looks like my toes are in need of serious adjustment. Going to start with what you suggested and go from there. Probably won’t get to work on it until Monday afternoon, but I’ll post pics me updates then. Thank you sir!

That's a pretty cool first build, nice! My friend recently acquired a predator engine, too! And still very capable. Gonna show him your build when I visit for the installation of the suspension from 4Wheelonline onto his truck.

Alright so months later, here it is.I can’t call it “Done”. (Is it ever?) but here it is. Got rid of the 3 Hp Briggs. Slapped on a Predator 212. Removed the governor and oil sensor. Installed a trumpet straight pipe, 22mm Chikuni Carb, and not much Else. Chain clips snapped off completely after first ride. Any ideas why this happened? Other than that, there’s not much left on this. Let me now if there is anything I can improve on. Thank You DIY Go Karts.you all RULE. Without you, this would not have happened.

I'd swap out that k&n filter for an oiled uni filter, those k&n filters are garbage.

Just a question as I'm exploring making a small kart for me and my girls, why go live axle over single drive for something on not made for offroading? My understanding is that single is better (and cheaper which is great for me right now)

I’m planning on doing a drum brake with a brake band as it’s just gonna be a little neighborhood kart
