Ok I must confess, I’m horrible when it comes to figuring out bolt sizes. It’s just something I’ve never needed to learn or maybe it’s because I don’t work with then enough. Anyway, I’m trying to transfer the chain guard from my old Tecumseh engine to my 6.5hp clone and I can’t seem to figure out the correct bolt size. I first tried the bolts used on the Tecumseh (5/16” I think) but figured any standard size bolt wasn’t going to work on a Chinese engine so I went out and bought what I thought was the metric standard to the 5/16”. I can get both bolts to start but can’t get past about a 1/8 of an inch before I hit resistance. This is for the bolt holes down by the shaft. Does anyone know what size bolt it takes?
I’m going to look silly carrying my motor around the hardware store but don’t think I won’t do it.
