My buddies trailmaster cheetah would start and idle but when he gave it gas it would gas it would die. I went and picked it up to check it out. Wouldn't even start when I got it. Tried to clean the carb but it had the security screws on it so I had him order another one from amazon. Got a 24mm, same as original. Put that one in and it started and ran but was really slow. I cut open the factory carb and put the jets from the original in the new one. Ran much better but would only hit 29 mph. He claims it would do 38 mph before. This is all by gps apps. Told him to come drive it and he backed it out of my shop and it died and now won't start. I plan on checking the valves tomorrow but what else am I missing? These things seem pretty simple. I did clean the jets before I put them in the new carb.

When it dies, immediately check for spark at the plug, try to drain the fuel bowl. If liquid comes out, catch it in a clear glass jar.
If nothing comes out, find out why. If liquid comes out, see if water separates out at the bottom of the jar. If no spark, you seem competent to finish this lesson. Good luck.

Is the gas full of crap? Fuel filter plugged up?
I didn't think about checking spark again after it died. It was hot as hell out and I was done messing with it for the day. I'll look into that. It has fresh non ethanol fuel in it. I pulled the line off the carb and turned on the petcock and fuel drained out through the filter so I think that's all good. Haven't had a chance to look more into it today. Appreciate the replies.

I have been running into problems with custromer neighbors and their gas powered riding mowers and karts/minibikes, dying in the afternoon heat.
We narrowed it down to vapor lock. Fuel boiling in the fuel lines (near the engine, under a hood) or in the carb bowl. We figured this out today at 98 degrees. It was impossible to figure out in the evening or when not actually running in the sweltering heat. Just a thought, probably not your problem... Carry on, I'll be in the pool if you need me.
