hello I have a trail master 300xrx with efi that completely refuses to idle. I am able to start it up and drive around but as soon as i come to a stop it dies. So far all ive done is change the spark plug and oil. I couldnt find any information online on how to adjust the idle and was wondering if anyone knew how/if you can adjust it.

Ok thanks I’ll try that out tommorow and report back. Is that somewhere in the throttle body I’m really not too knowledgeable on fuel injection.
Im not sure where it is located or exactly what it looks like.
Im assuming a typical IAC pintle valve.
Most likely located by the butterfly on the throttle body. It will have some electrical wires to it.

The engine might have a mass air flow sensor too that could be dirty.
You said it runs fine just no idle, so I would guess more to the IAC being culprit.

Post some pics and we might be able to point you a little in the right direction if your unsure.

ok i got some pictures. The throttle body is extremely dirty so i will start by cleaning that out and see if it helps. The only sensor that appears to be anywhere in the intake is what I assume is a throttle position sensor but correct me if I'm wrong. There is an air adjustment screw that i have messed around with a little but with no change in idle results.

I found this trouble shooting page.

There is no IAC i can see. It controls fuel mix based off of the TPS which you found, and a mass air flow sensor.

Being that much dirt is in the throat I bet the MAF is dirty too. Have to use a special cleaner for that. They are sensitive little buggers.

What kind of air filter is on that buggy? I hope its not a cone type bug screen.

Here’s a picture of the air filter it doesn’t seem to be doing its job based on the amount of dirt throughout the whole intake. I’m also not completely sure if it has a MAF the only 2 things I see throughout the intake is that throttle position sensor and the fuel injector.

The TPS is on one end of the throttle shaft, the return spring and throttle cable are on the other end. I think you will find your idle speed adjustment right next to that big spring. If it does have a MAF sensor, it is between the air filter and the throttle body. Definitely clean the throttle body befor making any adjustments.

That brass screw on top of the throttle is probably an idle air bypass. Try using that to adjust the idle after cleaning.

Egad, that is dirty inside. Looks like faulty air filter or no air filter. There’s people that think an air filter is way too restrictive.... Anything could have happened, are you the second/third owner?

Edit: thanks for the filter pic. It looks like a legit filter however it needs to be installed and seated properly with no gaps and no holes in the air filter housing that bypasses the filter. That happens more than you think.
