trailmaster 150xrs not starting

Hello everyone. My sons Trailmaster 150xrs has started acting up. The starter will spin but the motor will not. Sometimes there is a grinding noise. After quite a bit of cranking it will catch and the motor will spin and start and run perfect. I have replaced the starter with no change in behavior. Also, when I stuck my finger in the hole for the starter I can move the “flywheel” back and forth. I have a perfect video of it acting up but I do not know how to post it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks and have a great day.

Back and forth as in side to side or fowards/backwards I relation to engine rotation? How much play is present?

Sounds like the starter clutch is boingo. Go to American Land Master, service manual for 200 series.

with Snaker based on the video and parts diagram. What I wonder if this bearing (circled) is a one way bearing or not? I haven't been into one of those engines as of yet...

I'd say starter clutch also. It's a sprag or a one way device that only rotates one way and freewheels the other. Once they fail, the sprag no longer holds then starts making that "slipping" noise.
