TrailMaster 150 XRX Won't Move! HELP PLEASE

We have a TrailMaster 150 XRX go cart and it was running fine but recently it started having issues and wouldn't accelerate when you push the gas pedal. We are not very mechanically savvy, but with the help of a friend have tried the following:

1. Removed carburetor but couldn't open it because it's riveted closed.
2. No black smoke when running so it does not appear to be too rich.
3. Replaced the CDI and regulate rectifier.
4. Replaced the magneto and crank sensor.

It will start and run but it sounds like it is misfiring. As soon as you give it gas, it stalls. There is no smoke. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next. We are DESPERATE!

1: clean out carb, or order new one.
2: check spark plug, should be clean, not black.

The carb is attached so you really can't see the rivets. My friend does not feel it's related to the carb. We already checked the spark plug and it's clear. Any other suggestions/thoughts? Thank you.

Its either
fuel delivery
Spark
Or compression.

If it dies when you push the gas peddle its either getting too much gas, or not enough. By the sounds of it its not getting enough. Again clean the carb or replace (ive never heard of a carb rivited together, and am very skeptical of that myself)

Try putting the stock CDI back in and see if it runs. They almost never go bad. You might have bought the wrong style.

Does the engine run great but the kart doesn't move, or does the engine run crappy and the kart doesn't move? Might not be the engine at all

Thats what I was wondering at first too, but wheb it got to the stalling and misfiring I figured it was more engine than anything.

The not moving part could very well be the cvt.

The ignition is misfiring. It acts like a bad rev limiter, but not sure this has one. We tried more fuel in by partially covering the carb and no change in the exhaust firing pattern until it stalls. We ran the carb out of gas and the exhaust firing pattern remained unchanged. Opening the throttle does NOT stall it. The cylinder fires harder and the vacuum slide opens a little more, but the misfire keeps the rpm's too low. The carb has no screw heads and they look like rivets, even though they are not true rivets.

DO NOT listen to your friend if that is the advise he gives you. He is wrong.

The carb NEEDS to be replaced or cleaned. Period. There is no way around it. You can do some sort of magic dance to try to make it work, but Im telling you, your wasting your time.

Order a new carb and fuel filter off eBay and get to riding.

We already checked the spark plug and it's clear.

That's impossible, the spark plug itself is not clear (as in, transparent), neither is the residue on it; what colour is the spark plug?

Below is a picture of the carb. You can see one of the round gold "rivets" that are on both sides of the carb. They are not screws. We can not figure how to open the carb. Are we missing something??? How do we take it apart to clean it?

We replaced the spark plug and no change.

We put the original CDI back in and no change.

You can start by giving us the make and model of engine. That way we can find some diagrams on it (hopefully).

You can also start by taking the carb off of the engine, and snapping some pics of it all the way around.

if everything is rivited together, you may be able to drill the rivited out and replace with screws...possible tap the holes, but we won't know without more, better pics, and knowing exactly what the engine is.

May even be able to buy a new carb for cheap.

It's a Trailmaster 150XRX. From my knowledge, it has a Honda clone 150cc engine.

Have you actually taken the carb off of the engine and inspected it, or did you just see the two gold pieces and assume it has rivits?

if im correct, those use a GY6 engine (or clone of one). afaik, those carbs have an auto-choke that very commonly fail.

iv had a similar problem on my manco where the diaphragm inside the carb was cracked, making it run too lean.

a new carb on ebay usually cost 20-30 bucks, and usually comes with a new auto-choke

Yes, that is the carb. Yes, we had the carb taken off while working on everything. While the carb was off, we sealed the choke ports off, and it still ran the same. We do agree that the auto-choke failed, however aren't sure that is the only issue since it was running the same with the ports sealed.
