Well the wife gave me the go ahead to find a good old cheap tractor.
I've got 2500 to work with.

I normally borrow my dads old ford 8n but it needs a rebuild pretty bad and isn't up to the task anymore.

Hoping to find a steal on a 30hp diesel tractor that will allow me to finish clearing the back lot of the property.

This is my normal kart track path:

This weekend I borrowed the neihboors tractor and smoothed out a new track portion that was extremely bumpy and unrideable before to give me this:

Now once I get my own tractor I will start smoothing and setting up the far back of the property. The pic is way out of date and I have cleared out almost 75% of the trees in that section. I only left the larger healthy trees and cut away all the small tree's and underbrush.
I still have about 40 logs to haul out and about 70 stumps to cut or pull but it's a far sight better.
Looking to ultimately have something like this:

Hoping I can get a tractor this week or next week. From what I have seen on craigslist it's gonna be longer than that.
Tractors are expensive and I have a very small budget but I'm sure the right deal is somewhere out there for me.

I totally agree. I think the reference to cheap here is relative though......
3k bucks is a cheap tractor to me......someone else might find that extremely expensive.....others might think it's not even worth having LOL

if you have the patience, you'll find your deal, it works both ways, when I overprice the daylights out of something, it eventually sells, just got to persevere and keep that ad alive, on the flip side, keep that scratch in your bank account and if the deal isnt sweet enough, don't "hit", wait, and wait, and your deal will come, you'll get a steal on it

Yeah it's going to be a blast.
I might have found a pretty solid deal on a late 60's ford 601 workmaster 32hp.
I'm gonna go look at it tomorrow and see if he will come down on price. Right now he's asking 2995. I'm not gonna pay more than 2500.

Tell him you'll give him more than $2500, but first he has to talk to your wife. :D

beat him up good, a few of my tactics....

"how did you come up with $2,995?"
"have you looked at book value on this tractor?"
"I know book value isn't always accurate but it's the most my insurance will cover, I've taken a loss before by spending more than what insurance would cover and I wont make that mistake again"
"When was the last time you replaced the hydraulic lines, or cleaned and repacked the wheel bearings?- You know those are going to cost me about $800 so I have to take that off your asking price"

and then there's my old man's advice: never negotiate a deal you're not willing to walk away from

Well i walked away from a few tractors and ended up with a white field boss 31.
Sub compact tractor with a 30hp diesel.
Got it in my lrice range and it runs pretty good. Excited to get to clearing and smoothing.
