Soooo...with all the mentally pre-pubescent ideas lately....I feel left out! I mean, why should just the youngsters ignore the fact that Ben Franklin discovered electricity, racing and the internal combustion engine has been around for over a Century, and there are Corporations that hire people with degrees and years of experience in engineering that would surely have these "innovative out of the box " pipe dreams in production....(or at least patented) ...if they had any merit whatsoever...or at least used by SOMEBODY 30 Years old or racing or SOMETHING!

SOOOOO....Here we go: (This is gonna be epic!) A wind powered electric kart! The turbine fan blades would face forwards ! Sooo....just point it into the wind and go! (Might have: to get a push on a calm day)....but...just think...once it's going....the faster you go...the faster the turbine spins the more electicity.....200 mph...for free!:sarcasm:

Sooo...some might think: why so critical?

Well...I'll tell you...in my day, coming right out of High School...you had to spend time and money for information. Best case scenario: you had to get to the Public library and spend a few hours sifting through the decimal card files, then chasing down the books, then reading through them and maybe coming up empty.

Then if that didn't work...you had to wade through a bookstore or the back of magazines and PAY for publications that either may or may not have the information you were looking for...

Or track down someone with the knowledge...and hope they might be willing to share.

Soooo.....now...you hit Google: type in African pygmy sweat...and in under 5minutes, you've got everything you ever would want to know!

SOOOOO.....In this new world of instant gratification without effort, people join forums, don't bother to fill out profile locations, don't bother to read the rules and completely ignore forum etiquette, are so antsy they start 3 or 4 threads in minutes, are so hyper they don't bother to Capitalize or use punctuation....(and if they can't....it's because they were to lazy to learn in school! )

Overall....they are lazy, under the mindset they are entitled, and disrespectful to the institutions and elders who they think should coddle and respect them for being nothing more than consumers of someone else's effort.

.....and all they need do is 5 minutes of research online!

Rant over!

"I'm Busy! Google it"

She said, How can I google it if I cant spell it!!!

I think she is smarter than the teacher!!!

Did she tell her to Google 3 times before she could answer?

BTW: In my day....the standard answer was: "Look it up in the dictionary! "

Libraries are where you store your hard copies; you know, the ones that can't be hacked by a foreign entity from the other side of the globe. Then there's the fact that just because a new storage medium has the capacity to hold "X" amount of data doesn't mean it comes with that data. I've had to hit the old fashioned library twice in the last couple of years because something I was interested in was referenced to on line, but wasn't actually on line itself. Add to it the fact that you need an independent way to double check a great deal of the supposed "FACTS" from the internet as well.

Or are you one of those people who believe everything they read on the internet??? If you are, then I think Doug has a bridge he'd like to talk to you about......

Point taken. We do need a hard Copy. and there are a few things that you just cannot find online.
I live in a Suburb of San Diego. That City just spent 500 million! on a library! 1/2 a Billion!!!
My small town has a nice 30 year old Library. But for some reason they want to build a new one. The High school kids have Libraries at the School. and If they got rid of all the stupid crap that IS online, there would be plenty of space for your Obscure Writings in the old Library.

I mean sriously, when was the last time you used a Phone Book, or a Pay phone?

Well Doug that's easy..
FOUR!

reason is actually quite simple, you don't want to lose too much of the wind energy with friction..
so less is more ;)

:idea2: If you can get rid of the bearings (that's where the friction occures)
by -let's say- removing them completely.. you can step up to six without problems.

'sid

PS Honestly.. I think I actually saw a indirect wind powered kart..
quite a nasty thing.. windenergy was stored in batteries (with a certain loss of course) and that powered an electric motor in case it got too calm for a sail...

Ah yes the days of having to find where you put your manual to look up a part needed.
Then scroll through the phone book making call after call to get said part. Now either send a check and wait forever to get it or use the C.O.D option that none of these kids have a clue about.

Cant forget the how to do or fix something information. Find books at library, read and LOOK at b&w pics. Now you just youtube it all.

Etc. etc.

I agree ML. I think Pat was worried about the Zombie Apocolypse, and having no internet.
I am more concerned about the NAZI type burning the Actual Books though!

DID YOU GUYS SEE THAT BLACK HELICOPTOR????:smiley_omg:

EDIT: And just for that Nazi remark Eric: "NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

I do believe in Zombies and the apocolypse. I am just hoping the Aliens that I also believe in will help out with the Zombies.

:idea2: :idea2: :idea2: There's even better reasons for keeping books around for reference; the format size is usually extremely easy to read and handle, it doesn't time out or power down at the most inconvenient time, books can usually handle a lot more abuse than most smart phones, they don't vanish due to some arbitrary unneeded software update...... This list could go on for a while..... :cheers2:

:smiley_omg: I think you're on your own with that one..... :roflol:

:ack2: :ack2: :ack2: I'm getting a vision of the Alien (from Aliens and Prometheus fame) having violent indigestion from eating a zombie..... It's not pretty..... :smiley_omg: :ack2: :ack2:

You vintage 40 somethings and your ancient ways, stand back and let the Gen-Y show you how to do it. The future is not "ball" bearings, that's caveman. The future is magnets. See, the earth is actually a big magnet, so just make an opposite magnet and you can fly around on it. Duh. Then the wind can move you, you can just sip a latte and dink around with your phone posting selfies to facetube. Us gearheads know that mods, jackshafts and aerosol cans are how you make real power anyway. Give me a welding machine and watch the re-imagined, dynamic innovation sparks flying keep the smoke in your eyes I am writing a sentence and cool flames on fire in the carb boost did you see this about pistons smelling elcamino, yo!

:idea2: :idea2: It looks like his "Auto Translate" function got corrupted; I wonder if it was the spilled latte, or crossed polarity between his magnet and the welder? Huffing to many aerosol fumes maybe? Or do think he was trying to complete his post before the flames finished with his hair and started on his shirt????

Kids These Days!!! Lol

Instead of asking direct questions to experts who are able, willing, and wanting to help, I suggest building two homes on a snowy mountain top. One higher than the other. Then put a library in between the two.

That way kids can walk to the library, in the snow, uphill both ways to get their info.

I'm assuming this is fine because they will have watched a video on time travel and time management is no longer a concern.:lolgoku:

Could you imagine going back to magazines (the kind behind the counter at the liquor store) after being exposed to the Internet.

Come on... Doug knows what I'm talking about. Lol

Good luck with that! Lol

Are you kidding me? Other than dating sites (the really cheesy ones) ....that's the main reason I invented the internet! !!

BTW: AL Gore can't have it both ways: you can't claim to have invented the internet, then whine about Global Warming...I take credit for both...I did my part in the back seat of a Chevelle!
