Rewinding to the beginning...

What are you planning to do with your kart? How fast do you need to go? What is your budget?

Budget is blown. But as I want it to be ongoing project, I can find more later. will probably pop $250 for Flywheel, Connecting rod, MOD2 cam, and then install the 18lb springs I have. The fun is in the learning / experimenting process for me. Would have gotten the Lifan 420 for $270 but wanted to learn with this engine and the 420cc doesn't fit between the rear suspension springs easily. Perhaps later i'll throw this engine/TC on a mini bike or smaller kart and upgrade this beast later- 420? V-Twin? The Mods and stuff are fun for me anyway

Originally I wanted it for street use to cruise around my house (illegal), but would also like to take it to places like Cliffs Insane Terrain Park or Badlands off road park (those are the nearest $25/day places I can find to legally ride) I would like to find a pavement track I can bring it to, BUT, cant find one.

I want as much top speed as possible (40mph is good, 45mph might be too fast for this, but that's what im reaching for) while maintaining enough low end power for it accelerate easily and whip around the neighborhood and do some light off roading.

Best of Both worlds, right??

Could be by the time he is done with the science he'll be too tired to build a kart.

My sprocket just arrived. I'm going to take a nap! lol

No...let me explain what's gonna happen....you'll forget all about this technical on paper crap on the first test drive.....

You'll be seeking out a competent plastic surgeon to remove the newly acquired permanent smile you will suddenly find stuck on your face....

ENJOY...

You math freaks are sucking all the fun out of this forum, please stop at once! This forum is about DIY Go Karts not about math. Right now if a kid was lurking on here and came across this they would quickly run away because everyone knows math is not fun. So please to avoid running off further children no more discussions on math.

uhhh...

I love math... So Denny, look away for a bit, I don't wanna ruin your fun to have some myself ;)

I was going to suggest my calculator as it includes weight, torque and shirts of that nature...
it'll (as accurately as possible) tell you the top speed the engine is capable of
-in theory that is!-

So if you're willing to try.. (it's free.. also ad-free... so try all you want)
visit app.kartcalc.net with your phone (no..still no non-mobile version available... sorry)
or take a look at kartcalc.net now to see what it's about.

Sorry Physicist by Education (its programmed into my brain) bartender by occupation. All done with the math, so lets get drunk and crash this thing.

Perhaps Math would be more fun for kids if they knew they could use it to build awesome gokarts

I'll give it an endorsement. I plugged in my specs on my truck buggy and it worked great. I actually get a couple extra mph more than it predicted but better to have a calculator that's reserved instead of optimistic.
