Hey guys ive been working on a briggs 5 hp.

The only part I need is a torque converter?

Is this part even needed?

Is there a way around it? is it worth the money? (does it put out more power?)

lots of questions i know but im still pretty new to this. used to real cars XD

You do not need a torque converter if you do not want one. The cheapest way around it is a centrifugal clutch. Yes, from what I have heard and seen, a TC is worth the money and puts out a substantial amount of more power. But if you don't wanna spend the money, the clutch is the day to go.

the torque converter changes your ratio on the fly providing amazing torque and speed, very nice upgrade. you dont have to have one but there amazing. you could always go with a centrifigul clutch but it wont put out the same acceleration and power, and you might have to change your gearing so it dosent burn up. you can get a china tav2 for 130, and just a centriful clutch for maybe 40$ shipped

Where can I buy that TC? I've been searching for a cheap TC and I just can't find one cheap.
