Torque Converter questions

So this is my brother in laws buggy. My new to me STA-8 is beside it. My Maxxam is not pictured.

Has anyone seen a torque converter like this before? It does not seem to, I am unsure what the proper term would be for a converter, shift (?) properly. It gets up to 22 mph and no faster and clearly has not expanded hardly at all.

This is a modified odyssey frame that we found in a scrap pile. It has 16 horse Kohler that he put in it. The exhaust is temporary, we are working on a different setup. Tires are from a quad, we both like buggies better.

From what I can see it looks like a snow machine converter and belt. .. hard to tell how thick the belt is. .. just my guess.

I'm gonna just guess wrong belt and dirty internals on the TV.
What the heck is a cow nipple doing in your picture?

Bbg Joe, that's the exhaust. It aint pretty.

So it's a snow blower cvt, so maybe it will turn the rpms we'd like?

It probably does have dirty internals. We will have to look into that.
