so Saturday i got my torque converter, installed it, and rode almost all the day.it seemed that there was some more torque, but barley any more speed. so about 10 minutes into riding i found that i can rev the engine all the way up and it still barley catches and it wasn't going very much faster then stock. So yesterday morning i pulled off the cover to find that the driver and driven weren't aligned and there was belt dust everywhere. The belt is still usable but i hope it breaks soon so i can put a real comet belt on it and none of the china belt crap.My question is will the driver not being exactly aligned with the driven cause a loss in speed and torque? ive included a picture so you can see what im talking about, you can see the nonalignment and the belt dust on the back plate. sorry if the photo quality is low, it was taken with my cell phone

That's badly out, sort the allignment out with a shim, and tell us your results. That is probably your issue.

I think during installation I noticed it but thought it was in because I have bad vision and that's all the kit came with. Ill be adding a shim soon, do you think it will change anything? And when I got it the driven was on backwards. Makes me wonder

Spaced out the driver and noticed a nice increase. I have good torque but when I was riding with it messed up the belt frayed quite a bit. It doesn't always catch but it does. I have good torque and better top speed but I can feel it hit the governor. She's out next and a comet belt will be put on and that. Should do well

someone please help me, this is upsetting me, we put about 3 medium sized spacers on the shaft and it helped much, but its still off just a bit. i defintley need a new belt, this one is almost done for. i need to get a few thin spacers so i can make a combination that will push it out perfectly and make sure the belt exits and enters perfectly, i just want this to work so i can ride, not worry about anything, and have the top speed and torque i want, you know its bad when you neighbor with an ungoverned clone, 42T rear sprocket and old baja gear reduction can beat you, even if it is only just by a little

that driver has to be almost hanging off the end of the engine shaft.

on mine to get them alligned i grinded off the lip on the back of the driven and removed the spacer

Can we say, told you so!
Get the allignment right, then measure the top distance of the belt. It should be 3/4"
The speed will only go up by 10%, hardly a lot.
Does your motor reach WOT quickly? You can adjust the spring tension on the driven pulley.

alright, so i flipped the cover off and went for a little ride today. im still just a little off and while riding i noticed the belt isint coming up into "overdrive" and is still remaining in the middle, i need to add one more spacer of perfect size and get it right. and thesse bikes should go from around 20, to around 40. now im not asking for the bike to be super fast, but i want it run right and know im getting the max out of it. that includes top end but also all the torque, because if not alligned correctly im not getting the max of either. i know i have a 6 in. driven and i know the top belt is 3/4 but the center distance that measures how long the belt it i havent determined yet

If you're running a TAV2 knockoff as I suspect you are, CD shouldn't matter- it's fixed because of the integrated backplate/jackshaft. You don't need to figure out which belt you just need to get the belt... No?

yes im using a knock off TAV2 without a belt number, now to get a correct comet belt, i need to know the center distance between the jackshaft and center of driver, some belts for comet 30 are made longer and some shorter, the key is the center distance

i see the problem. your driven is weird and backwards.

EDIT: wait no, that might not be it. are both sides of the driven angled?

No. One side is angled and its facing out. If i put the driven the other way its moved way out and theres the driver goes no where near it

but, the angled sides seem wrong.

which side is angled on the driven, closer to the chain or closer to the nut?
