I've got a 9hp honda motor(not a clone), gx 270. After burning up my clutch I did some research and decided to go with a torque converter. 30 series CVT Tav-2.

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems when bolting this up. I cant get my bolt patterns to line up properly when I install it with the driver on the left and driven on the right. It keeps bumping into the side of the motor/oil area:

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what you did to fix it. I really dont want to install a jackshaft if I dont have to. Your help is appreciated greatly. Thanks

it came with a backplate. But when installing it wont line up properly. It keeps hitting the area that I highlighted.

The TC that I got has a small sprocket that behind the pulley that you can hook your chain to and then hook it directly to the sprocket on the axle. it says the jackshaft is built into the torque converter. This is what i bought:

8HP rating

I had the same issue trying to install my Tav2 on my 13 hp clone. I returned it and checked it on a 9 hp they had on display with the same result. The Tav 2 setup that comes complete with the plates and both driver, driven and jackshft is only rated to 8 hp and will bolt directly to the moto. the smaller crankcase on a 8 will allow the driven to fit where you are now having the fitment issue. A spacer could be utilized on the crankcase the allow the backing plate to sit far enough away if you want to run the driven shaft below to oil filler but alignment of the pulleys are crucial and why exceed the rating only to risk damage or shorten belt life. I ordered a 44D clutch and 44driven and will install independant jackshaft.

You can try grinding down the backplate or get a stamped steel backplate.
Yeah it's only rated 8hp but keep the Honda stock and you should be fine.

I had the same problem with my 9hp clone and same torque converter, I had to rotate the back plate clockwise so the driver pulley is on the other side of the crank. So what I mean is when you are looking at the the back plate the driver pulley is on the left side of the crank. The problem with this is the chain will be longer and you might need to grind away some of the fins on the back plate.

Thanks for the help. I'll try grinding off some of the fins so that the chain will flow freely. When I talked to the guy about the part(talked with the manager down in San Antonio at bullet lines) he assured me the tc was rated for motors between 8-13 hp. So I'm assuming this is just fluff?

i hoenstly thing the stamped steel plate is flimsy and sucks, i can bend it with my hands. now you could either mount the TAV in a different direction like jwheels, or you could do like i did since mine hit the frame. you want to mount it on the second set of holes, i find theyre just right for my set up. then carefully take note on the bottom of the plate whats interfering and grab your cutting wheel and take it off. now mount it up and you should be fine. the only bad thing is that youll loose one mounting bolt. but itll be just fine without it also to jwheels, whats with the chain ? looks like its rubbing the frame pretty bad

Do you have any pics you could post so I can get an idea of how you mounted it?

My back plate is not stamped it is cast aluminum and it looks like that is what texmex has also. It's at least a 1/4 inch thick.

I have had to shave fins off of the rear of the mounting plate to make these stock plates fit on honda styled engines. Do measurements and see if that might work. Disclaimer: this will weaken the plate slightly.

8hp and above should be a 40 or 41 series. 30 series and the TAV's are meant for 3-8hp. So even if you get it on, it wont really help That much.

I actually got it installed today. Shaved the fins off of the plate so now the chain flows very nicely. It's got some nice get up and go power. Very happy to finally have it running. Thanks to all you guys who helped me. Big shout out to mysteryboy....he shared a lot of great knowledge. Thanks again
