Hey guys. I was planning on making an offroad go kart. I wanna use the 420cc predator engine with a torque converter and I am fairly new to the whole go kart hobby. I was going to start buying all the small parts such as the torque converter, spindles, hubs, sprockets. I have an idea of what i want except the sprocket size and torque converters. I want the kart to be quick but able to go up hills. So i was wondering what gearing i should use. Thanks in advance.

Well how big off hills. Steep mountains, small hills. Usually You would use a 1 to 6 gear ratio or 1 to 7. What speeds do you want if 35 or 30 use 16 inch tires

Using a 420 predator, your gonna need a comet 40 series IIRC. .... The gearing REALLY depends on you're tire size and total kart weight. If you want to jump little stuff, you want decent front suspension and at least a swing arm rear. If you want to JUMP stuff, (not recommended) you're gonna need independent suspension all the way around and a solid mounted motor (it dont move with suspension) so it dont konk out from fuel slosh and whatnot. ...
JM2cents....
6:1-7:1 ratio....

Gearing is something that should be decided once the kart has been build. This is because it will be affected by so many factors like tyre diameter, kart weight, terrain, etc. Ideally an offroad kar is not going to hit 30MPH because you gear for torque, not speed.

You are going to have to get a comet 40 series with the 420cc engine you are going to use. If you want numbers, I would probably gear 7:1 or maybe 8:1. You might not hot 30 though
