torque converter and pred 212 knowledge needed

made decision to go with torque converter. was going to go with one from gc usa its designed for predator. but i want one from bmi it on sale for 139 so what would they specialize for the predator? i know the predator one comes with 1/8x inch 1/8 washer for crankshaft. is thatvreally only difference ?

TC's are not made for specific engines. If you were told this, you have been lied to. All you need is an engine with HP in the range that the TC can handle, as well as the correct shaft diameter that the TC is made for. TC's can be used on Predators, blue clones, brigs, subaru etc etc etc

Comet 30 series (of which the GC is a clone) is rated up to 8HP

As far as I know, they work fine. But still, if you can find a used comet, that would be better. Infact, look on ebay, I just seen someone got a TC up. I think around $70 to get both clutches...

just didnt want any major problems . hard to pass on that deal. i mean wats better quality with the comet? i know its american and i like that but what else ? and later could i add the comet driver and driven if needed to?

My only experience with them is I have a Comet (jackshaft, no backplate) and a TAV2 (backplate not jackshaft) (which is what I think the BMI unit is), and so far I can't tell much difference between them in terms of operation, reliability, etc.

I don't know for sure, but from looking at the two I'd bet you could interchange them and their parts.

Adding the Comet parts after the fact would probably end up costing you more than you would have spent on the real deal in the first place.

What's better? The usual. Metallurgy, engineering, R&D, quality control. The chinese grab something, reverse engineer it, try to understand it best they can, and knock it off as cheap as humanly possible... You buy a Comet, you buy quality. You buy a chinese knock off, you're rolling the dice.

Or better yet scour Craigslist for an old Dingo or Yerf Dog with a TC...you'll get a good Comet along with a bunch of other parts you can use or sell. Steering, brakes, axle, spindles, tires, etc. Here in SE Michigan they can be had (non-running or barely running) for $200 or so.

Look for the 8+HP karts. They usually had 40 series Comets with a trick engine/jackshaft mount.

I just bought one of those cheap chinese TC's and had issues with aligning the pulleys and running out of crankshaft. I did get it to work but am gonna have to make an extension for crank.
