Hi guys! I'm wondering how can I use your speed calculator to get the top speed of my kart if I have belt transmission, not a chain one. Do you have any ideas?

In the long run.... ya, at the same rate so does friction, which would be coupled with the weight. It also hard to factor into the equation, hence not present in most calculators.

do you have a smart phone? download the free "GPS lite" app by MotionX, it will calculate top speed, avg speed, distance, and more

Well it's a nice idea but I use android not iOS

Try GPS Essentials, it has more measurement fields than you will ever need; top speed, average speed, acceleration, distance travelled, GPS location, altitude, etc... & that's just on the dashboard!

Do you mean "belt transmission" as in a torque converter or as true belt drive with fixed pulleys & a V belt?

AFAIK, itsid is currently developing an app that will calculate top speed using a TC...

If you're using a GPS to measure top speed, be sure to take the average of several LONG passes. These things need some time to stabilise and calculate accurately. I usually do six 30-40 second passes on my road in opposing directions (to account for slight incline/decline) and then average them.

in that case.. as mentioned.. just put your pulley diameters in (in inches or cm doesn't matter.. as long as it's used on both pulleys of course ;)

True, I am...
and it'll have a speedometer on board too.
But it's not done yet.
getting closer every other day, though ;)
