i think Im stuck on Craftsman. The advantage being that their prices are pretty good and theres a Sears almost everywhere you go. Im looking at this set.

I have been a professional auto tech since 1979. Back in the day nobody could tell me that there was any alternative to Snap-On and Mac tools but as I get older I am more willing to look at the alternatives. From my experiance the tools from Lowes, Home Depot and Craftsman are good reliable tools. For some reason I still like my Mac and Snap-On ratchets though.

I wouldnt buy the stuff from Tractor Supply, they are junk even with a lifetime warranty. To be honest some of the best tools I have used are Stanley Proto hand tools. They carry a lifetime warranty, MANY different places carry them. I used to have all Popular Mechanics tools, they are great quality but exchanging them is a pain now since hardly no where carries them.

Lowes tools are good too, Kobalt, but they are spendy.

Craftsman, Snap On, Mac, Matco, you pay for a name more than the tool. Trust me when I say, that most of these all have the same manufacturer, JS Tools, and are not any better.

Power tools, most of mine are Hitachi, Compound Miter, drills, cordless, Reciprocating Saw. I do have a HF POS Band Saw, makes a good paperweight.

Lincoln or Miller Welders, hands down, best in the market. Hobard are good too, I am sure on the small hobby welders like most use, they are all made by the same Chinese company and just have different paint on the chassis.

You want a good deal? Check Rummage sales and flea markets. Get tools you know have a life time warranty. Exchange them if needed but know that most tools made 15-20 years ago will last another 50 before the new crap in stores today lasts 10. Just a matter of fact.

Ended up getting a Craftsman 14 drawer tool box, 22 metric & standard sockets, ratchet, 24 combo wrenches, 3 files, punch set, screwdriver set, 3 ton jack, rolling mechanics seat, and drilling hammer. All from sears.
