OK... here is my dilemma. I am constantly in a 'croocked' train of thought... the 'simple' things sometimes pass me by, mocking me 'gundam style'...

I sold a kart I had madeup for my daughter awhile back... "Miku". I had traded it for a trailer and 150$. He still has a balance of 100$ to pay me... but he and his daughter have grown... bored of the 'go-kart' thing... so he offered me first dibs on both his karts. His other one looks very similar to another kart I had and sold. He's offering both to me for 200$... and both run like new. Both have HF212(my old one and his new one) governors intact, cept his has a header n I think he opened the intake alil more aswell. They are both 1-wheel peelers... and I have less than 0 use for em(daughter dont ride anymore n I have 1 for each of my bi-polar personalities).

My dealings w/ this guy(known him throughout my life... 20+yrs), we never REALLY 'pay-off' our debts w/ each other... we usually endup a tradeup somewhere up the road, so Im/he's not worried bout the 200$.

But my curiosity is... what do I do w/ 2 extra karts that run... but would be a downgrade, for me. I dont want to keep em, no room... and honestly tired of selling stuff(yea I know $$$ is better than useless karts... but its not 'buy a go kart' season).

I had a passing thought of some contest or drawing(app fee ofcourse), to 'win' the karts... but not sure bout that either.

My father suggested donating em and write off for taxes(but I dont itemize, plus what 'charity' would want acouple karts?!).

Neighbor strongly suggested that I NOT give/sell to anyone in the neighborhood due to idiot infestations.

I know of a 'kid' that would love to 'have' one(one of daughter's friend's brother), but not sure how he'd enjoy it, where they live.

So, I guess Ill make this into a poll. Seeing that I have 2 karts, you can vote for more than one choice(PLEASE VOTE and/or comment) add your 2 pennies below...

I would just sell them now. Even if you make a bit less than you could in spring, at least you will be making SOME money...

Well, Ive watched this area for kart sales for the past 2 yrs and it appears I have a potential to lose 50-100$ per kart if I were to sell em now vs. late winter... thats a possible 100-200$ thrown away... (this is my 'reasoning' for not selling now... if Im gonna 'sell' Id want the most buck for the bang... n late winter is when alotta ppl get their tax returns...) if it were only 1 kart and a potential loss of 50$ then no biggy... but 200$ is 1/3rd of my mortgage, round here thats kinda important.

Now... if enough ppl vote for selling now over everything else... then I may have to jump the gun and cross my fingers for some old G-ma/G-pa to buy one/both for their G-child for x-mas... (bout the only way I see Ill make the same amount).

I say sell later..
it's a bit of a pain to clutter up a shed, but it gives you time to decide what you'd want to do with them...
Maybe your daughter thinks she wants to give it another go, or you find a wanted ad on craigslist.

*shrugs*

I'd say wait a bit.. if worst case is you earn more selling them, I see no reason why to not reduce sheds space for some time ;)

I voted donate. You'll never go wrong being charitable to a child, with the proper caveats in place.

I can only vote once so ill explain then cast my second vote, here......
Most of you know how I feel about "giving away stuff".... Some of you have been recipients of said gifts. I'm all for donating a kart for a Christmas present. Find a really needy family. Ask friends if they personally know of a family with kids would greatly benefit from this as a gift. The kids would benefit from it. But make sure its not to parents who will end up taking it to the pawn shop later information bill money. You could even put a stipulation that they can not sell it or pawn it. IDK
As for the other one, pull the motor, stand it on end in the corner of the shed. It takes up less space when standing on end.....

On top of that, giving them away to a kid is also giving away maintenance... so there's a good chance they'd get run until they need a part (chain, tire, tube, whatever) then sit and rust.

Reasonably speaking, if you feel like donating it may be best to sell the karts and use the money to buy other toys, or provide the karts as a prize for a fund raising raffle/auction. Or if you have specific kids in mind that you think would enjoy it, you could always invite them over a few times to drive them before you do whatever you choose to do with them.

You might have a family in mind already, but if not, I have great ideas for finding that family.
First and foremost, your buddies shop, where you go to tinker, is a perfect place to shop..... He knows what kind of situations his customers are in. He knows what kind of people they are. Whether or not he thinks they would just sell it later. Or know if the dad has the ability to keep it running..... Ask your buddy.....
Another thing I do is, I drive through the lower income neighborhoods. Look for the houses that are kept up, in appearance. The yard looks decent, no junk laying around the yard, like the rest of the neighbors. Theses people are trying to have a good life. They are making the best out of what little they have. Least likely to sell the kart.....
When I was still an active fireman, I always kept my eyes out, for families in need, and what they had a need for. When I could fill that need with donated goods/services, I'd drop off the goods or direct the services being rendered. Never say who I was, where the stuff came from, or who was responsible. Although I kept hush hush about theses things and my identity, I was often recognized as a fireman who had come to help them at some point....
My point with the above statement is, just about all 1st responders have this forethought. Go to your local fire house. Ask some of the ambulance crews you wee driving around. Ask cops, who patrol your neighborhood. You have no idea the things we see. We see families from all income levels, education levels,ect...... One of these guys will already know a family that would benefit from your generosity. (not to mention, if it's a cop, he might let you slide the next time he catches you slipping up.....)

Lol... I already have a cadidate... suppose to be commin over later to hashout donation requirements... one will be to join the site n find out how much I really dont know bout karts... lol. Second... if kart become 'useless'... Id want the engine and rims(factory Manco rims).

If I couldnt find a person that I knew of... my next act was gonna be keep it till I ran across someone. The lil one is small enough to slide under the house indefinitely w/out being in the way. The big one I'd do as many free upgrades to it as I could until late winter... then unveil it for sale all fixed n purdy like... probably somewhere around the 350-400$ obo... no less than 300$(to break even).

... and I don't. "slip up"... I gracefully 'drift' in and back outta trouble!... no stopping... just one continual scene/shot of me moving sideways... showing the 'slang' version of, "Im #1/FU" Lol.

1 down...

Yesterday I went n grabbed the 2 karts from my friends place. After getting em home I examined all of what was done to my daughters ole kart, n found quite afew signs of neglect n ignorance rigging(took bout 1 hr to get her back to the way she 'was' b4 ).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWMVs331wyQ&feature=youtu.be

The other lil kart I had NO hand in making, so when I got to it... I didnt even wanna ride it for fear of something happening(I saw ALOTTA nono's and iffy connections).

Lastnite, I contacted another friend, whom had married a pre-made family, and told him I was giving him a kart to work on w/ a reasonably new engine. He's no virgin to small engines n minor mechanics, and throughout our lives Ive known him to DIY everything... so he's the perfect candidate to charity a kart too.

I dropped it off at his place(across town), n we talked. I had asked him to join us all here, but he's not a big internet user, and he likes to talk... but not type...lol (so chances of seeing him here are slim to nil). Today he's commin by to rummage through my spare parts bin.

Red one on the trailer is the same model Manco I redid.
Blaz (wonder what he's up to?) ID'd it as a Quicksilver.
It's got factory wheels on it, at Evilbay prices there's $150 in those alone!
Pedals run about $30-$40 and the sprocket to wheel adapter is another $30.
Somebody got a good deal!

Blaz is now a cop, or that is what he said he was training to be.

I like the blue kart too. It has some cool lines...

Today, the wife finally noticed the blue kart was nolonger in the shed. I informed her that a friend was holding it till I came up w/ more room, or sold it(same friend that I gave the red one to). She made a suggestion to just 'give' him the blue one and have him work it off sometime in the future...

So, ofcourse, he jumped on the idea, n started into his plans for it...

I will more than likely keep a log for him, seeing as that the blue one got more of a recognition than the red one... plus 'my' ideas for it 'may' come to fruition, through him:thumbsup:

Attachment shows why he had it in the first place...10'x13' FULL!!!
