To mount rear axle high or low

I've been working on the frame and gotten to mounting the 500cc suzuki motor and rear live axle. I'm not sure to mount the rear axle under the frame or on top. I could mount it low then it would give the kart more height and clearance but I would have to lower the motor. If I mounted the rear axle on top of the frame I wouldn't have to lower the motor to much but I think I would have to run a taller tire to make up for the lost height. A tall tire is fine with me I just don't know how tall a tire I can find. I ended up getting a 24T sprocket for the axle.

what kind of kart? street? trail?

flat stuff, mostly dirt and some street

Above will be fine, under is less stressful and better for dirt but most every race kart has a axle above the frame.

24T for the axle? Are you trying to set a land speed record?

I'm going 50T on the rear axle, maybe 55T or 60T

I've been rethinking the rear sprocket. The one on the bike wheel was 36 I believe. If I can find some tall tires to accomodate a bigger sprocket then I will for sure.
