That's not a fair comparison, CD. It's what you know--IT is your livelihood. If you were trained as a mechanical engineer the situation would be reversed.

I have a front steer cart, similar, and it toes in on turns, which is wrong. Correcting that is another thing that would help, maybe just a little.

Right now I am thinking about getting a 25lb weight lifting plate and welding it under the front end. That ton of bricks is very cumbersome!
How about not welding it and make a way to adjust the weight needed.

If it's a solid axle go kart, turning is always going to be crappy.

Tannerite would definitely bring this project to a close that is for sure!! There have been a few times I would have done just that. I had the front wheels just about as good as it would get. Then....my step daughter asked if she could take it for a ride. I said sure 
She came back and said "I think I broke it". I looked down and the front wheel is bent up and out. It is bent so bad it doesn't even touch the ground. Apparently she ran into a curb.

I mounted 4.10/3.5- 6 inch tires on 5 inch rims
I bought azusa 1" spacers. that allowed me to put
4.10/3.50-6 tires on 4.10/3.5-5 inch rims.
These would set you up rather well maybe:

Its an adjustment issue. your wheels aren't turning far enough. lengthen the tab on the steering shaft or (shorten the arm on the spindles). that will increase the throw. also check camber and caster like ebrownie said.
Also, is it a live axle, if so, its going to push some. you could move the front axle back so it is more under the weight of the driver. Adding bricks to the front, seems dangerous and against the grain of lighter is faster.
Increasing the camber can weight jack the rear ( lift the inside tire) which will allow it to turn alot better, because it is in essence one wheel drive during the lift.
