Tire/wheel combo

Kind of a specific question. I have some kart wheels n tires I bought separately. Used set of MG tires(slicks) and aluminum DWT wheels. Are there specific combos that work or don’t work together? Because for the life of me I can’t get these mounted. Almost like the wheels are a hair too big for the tires. On YouTube they all look easy to mount. Yes they are 5” wheels and 5” tires. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Jason.

I am not experienced in mounting small tires. I take mine to a little independent tire shop and have them do it. I have read that the little slicks are a real pain to mount. Smaller and wider = harder. Wish I had more advice for you.

You also need a band to wrap around the tire to get it inflated or you won't get the beads to seat without ruining the tire.

Did you get the tire on the rim yet? Or is above the problem?

The reason your having so much trouble mounting is because you bought a USED set of racekart tires.

The Beads and Sidewalls of brand new racekart slicks will stretch enough to easily mount on a rim by hand,
provided the installer is using some means of lubrication for the Beads to stretch over the rim..

Racekart tires harden over time & use, that's why it's not uncommon for the top drivers to replace their tires
every single week of competition, then they either throw away or sell off their old ones; even thought these tires
don't show any signs of wear at all.

To compound the issue, sometimes these used tires sit around hardening even more for years & years before
someone like you finally buys them... I've got a feeling that's the situation your dealing with now.

Most racekart shops have a tire installing machine that would force the bead over the rim, and would probably be
able to install, set the beads and inflate your used set of tires. Possibly for like only $20...

Yeah, I did get the first side on the rims, major pain itself. But from what anderkart said, at least I know I’m not doing something incorrectly. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

Gotta get the opposite side of the bead your fighting with to drop center.

I find some way to hold the rim.

A few long bolts through the lug holes and clamped in the vice has worked.
Some creativity goes well here.

Little tires are much harder to mount than big ones.

I ended up soaping and clamping the edge of the rim with vise grips and a piece of rubber. Then used tire levers. Popping the beads was a little sketchy. But it’s done. Thanks for the comments and advice.
