21246359_1843148829033630_7965803923054183970_o.jpgAfter dragging home two old rusty karts and fixing them up, I decided I wanted to start a project using a brand new frame.....The Azusa frame is the cheapest new one I could find. I do like the overall design, but, as people have mentioned here before, it is a short frame for a 5'10" guy like myself. So it looks like I will have to move the pedals forward as well as the steering wheel. I plan to use the parts from El Cheapo and save some money.....A front "bumper" will be put on to mount the pedal assembly. I will use my 4" wheels and tires from my inventory to lower the ride height-I primarily only operate on pavement. I ordered a seat from Speedway Motors because it is narrower than the Azusa seat which, as I read somewhere here before, does indeed resemble patio furniture...I will use my BSP Clone with 12-54 gearing because of the little wheels. Custom spindles from BMI Karts are in order as well to insure true Ackerman geometry. Seen here is the beginning mockup with 5" rear wheels...Stay Tuned-Thanks For Looking....

These are easy karts to lengthen, and you would not be the first to consider doing so. Let me dig up some photos and permit me to share them here...

I found these pics off of a craigslist ad. Nice job too.

100_1812.jpgHere is what she looks like with 4" slicks......
The Speedway Motors bucket seat was too narrow for my butt, so back it went.....I ordered a Renegade kart seat instead.....

100_1822.jpgHere are the two seats-the upholstered one is from Speedway Motors. As you can see, the back is angled too far and it puts the actual seat part halfway up the frame. The Renegade seat will be just perfect.......When it is finally mounted, it will be more towards the rear and down in the frame. I tried to return the Speedway seat today, but shipping was WAAAAAY too expensive. So I guess it's Craigslist......

100_1825.jpgHere is the latest....I decided to use Azusa seat brackets-but they needed to be modified a bit to accomodate the Renegade seat. I think I might also weld the brackets on-it seems that a Herculean effort is required to tighten them onto the frame!! I will eventually drill the front bracket holes and attach the bolts to the front of the seat. So far it supports my butt.....

Azusa Kart Update!!!!

100_1833.jpg It's been a while since I got to do anything on the Azusa kart project.....I have been helping my brother replace the transmission in his '32 Deuce Coupe. I kept looking at the kart and finally decided that the 4" slicks just looked too little once the whole thing started coming together. So I got me some real honest-to-goodness race kart wheels n' tires......NOW it looks right. The folks at PittRace kart complex say I should have some bumpers on the kart to be able to use their facility, so that's the next step......Bumpers will make it look bigger as well. 11" diameter rear wheels with 13/54 gearing gives it a top speed over 40 mph.

We got us some nerf bars!!!!!

001.jpgGot some nerf bars today-used on Ebay...cheap. The chrome will clean up real nice-just need a few mounting brackets and we're in business. The bars are Righetti Ridolfi nerf bars from a racing kart. Next-a rear loop type bumper.

Now it just needs front and rear bumpers to go with the nerf bars.

I think what he means and I might be misinterpreting, you should get some lights for your garage.
