Throttle Issue!!

I have a Carter brothers Go Kart, 1720-4015 I believe is the model number. It has a Tecumseh 10HP HM100 engine. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is, everything works fine, but when I try to hook up the throttle cable, it doesn't work. Maybe am I missing a spring? I have no idea. I'm new to this and my father and I got it as a project. It's all we need left to do. Any help is appreciated!

I'll follow it, I run a decent AV and AdBlock, so I'm not too worried about it. Nice picture quality and resolution, but uploading it straight to here is preferred by most folks.

When you step on the throttle, does that severely frayed cable actually move the linkage?

It's more of a bandwidth thing with most members, that or slow Internet speeds. Well that and a preference that we actually have the pics here for future people with the same problem. They can then just find it via a search instead of asking, and the pics will always be here. I'll be the nice guy though and download it and post it up.

However, as ck mentioned, it's not always about ads, it's about the pics themselves taking an age to load, especially on smaller devices...

Well I really just need the best way to hook it up, ot moves that lever, but the linkages don't move. By the way, thank you for posting that picture. It won't let me post from my phone on here.

I run a Tecumseh HM80 on one of my karts, which is very similar to your HM100 and uses the same linkage. What I did, was I installed a cable stop into the pre-drilled hole in the linkage so the cable has a straight shot with no bends in the wire. There is a screw going through the linkage from the back into that brass cable stop. Then, the cable goes through the hole, and I put a screw on the front to clamp the wire down. I added a return spring to the bottom of the linkage. The cable is held in place by the cable stops.

@Extinqt - From looking at the other pictures posted, you need some kind of connection from the part that is moving to the linkages. The other pictures show a rusty spring, but that seems weird to me since that spring must be pushing on the linkage an not pulling on it as you would think a spring would do.

@XXXStevemanXXX - Is that rusty looking spring pushing on the throttle linkage? If so, that seems an odd way to use a spring.

The linkage is not all one piece. You can rotate the piece with the linkage rods hooked up to it, independently from the throttle lever. The throttle lever itself can however, push that linkage rod plate forward. The throttle returns because of the lower spring, but that doesn't make the linkage arm return without an upper spring to pull it back toward the throttle arm. It is setup that way so you can press the throttle lever all the way down and hit a kill switch, otherwise they would have just made it all one piece. and I would have only needed the lower spring.

I picked up the springs at Home Depot. They were in a plastic bag with 3 other springs in it, and only $2 or so... I forgot to also tell you to use Loctite RED on the cable stop screws so they don't back out from engine vibration.

Okay, so I picked up some springs, and I have everything working. I also picked up a new throttle cable. I shouldn't say I have everything working, everything is working but the piece that the linkage rods are hooked into. It's not moving the governor arm, or the throttle on the carb. So that's where I'm stuck at. I just want to ride this thing sooo bad.

If you rotate the throttle lever toward the top, it should move the plate below it that has the holes for the linkages and rods connected to it, but it wont spring back without the top spring. If you move the throttle lever and it does not make the plate behind it move with the rods on it, the cam on the throttle arm must be bent.

Can you explain to me and or post a picture on what the "cam" is and how to bend it the right way?

It is Tecumseh Part Number 34677. Here are some good pics of it. By "cam" I mean the throttle lever itself pushes the plate with the rods on it with a lobe shaped end. There is a spring around it as well that you cant see very well.
