Throttle cable install help on Kohler magnum 8

Hello. Everyone I am new here and thought I give this site a go. This is what I got going on. I bought a used Kohler magnum 8 engine and I am installing it on my son’s Coleman 196 go kart. I took off the stock fuel tank and installed a fuel tank on the storage rack above the engine. The problem is I having issues on where to put the throttle cable on it so my son can run it with the gas pedal. I am thinking about installing it on the governor arm and install a return spring on the carb throttle so it will close the throttle instead of being wide open. I did install muffler I found at rural king and I installed a torque converter.

I see your still online If you stick around tomorrow I’ll get you measurements from a k series 8hp kohler. If my hunch is correct you can throw that carburetor into the bin and bolt a vm22 in it’s place with the stock very heavy carburetor bolts. then with an in cap cable you would just hook it up to the pedal rod and skip the janky governor bypassed deal that most people try to run with.

If your magnum 8 has a 2” bolt center to center for the intake a vm22 mikuni is an absolutely perfect option unless you intend to keep the governor? The in cap throttle cable makes hooking the other end to the pedal rod very simple. I advise you do and don’t get a mikuni. you do because if it bolts up with the stock carb bolts ease of use. And don‘t because rev it to hard and find out.

If I don’t keep the governor I was just going to tie it off to keep it still. I really don’t want to go tearing into this old engine and then fine parts again. I am about to take it off and buy a predator 224 but then I need a new torque converter becuase the magnum is 1” shaft.

Well the bolt hole size is 1 1/2” spread from what I can tell. I measured off the bolt heads

Did some research and that honestly sucks... you have the big 8hp 1” shaft and beefy and I’m telling you beefy torque converter backing plate bolts. They did drill your backing plate out to fit the massive bolts and bolt the plate to that Kohler. You would also have a massive crank bolt holding the 30 series on. Pop a header and a mikuni and what you have would be bulletproof. If you wanna spend money anywhere start slow. A mikuni will not just bolt to your magnum 8 so what to do is have one custom Intake made and get a cheap vm22.. last shot if your not happy with it go all out crazy wild predator 224 whatever. I rev a kohler to the danger zone and keep it floored racing.. it’s so much fun.

I think I am going to get a spring and attach it to the throttle part of the carb then to a bolt to keep tension on it being closed then attach a cable to the governor arm to rev it up with the gas pedal.
I have a custom trike that I welded together. It has predator 212 with after market carb and filter system. I also had custom fuel tank made for it.

You will be so much happier with a vm22 just saying I would be making an intake for that no questions. they have sooo much torque.

Thinking about making a reducer plate from 46mm to 48mm. I got tap and die set so I can thread two holes for the new screws to go into it.
