Throttle cable hookup briggs vanguard 6.5

Hello,

I for the life of me can't figure out how to hook up a throttle cable to this engine. I see where I can run a wire in, but the throttle would interfere full throttle. Do I attach to the arm? If so how do I mount the cable?

I'm really at a loss and can't figure this out and have been searching forever. Any tips appreciated!

Ok, see the two holes on the plate where it is bent up? Those should be threaded. If you have a predator around pull the cable holder that's not being used off, and see if the bolt will thread in. The holders will have one side that has a skinnier longer spot on it, that goes in the notch above the threaded hole. The way the throttle opens will determine which side the cable mounts on. You want the throttle to pull the controll arm towards full throttle. And you may need a return Spring. then to hook the throttle up to the arm you can either tru to use the barrel on the end of the throttle cable if there is one, or use the barrel nut off a predator if you have one (there are two clamps and two barrel nuts on each predator).


I hope you don't mind me circling the areas of focus.

PS: This worked on my briggs intek engine, but I'm not sure if it'll work on yours.

Thats looks like what I was thinking. I might have to rig something up or find a kit.

I found what you're talking about from the briggs racing site which uses the same throttle linkage as the vanguard. I ordered a spring and some clips.

Now to go grind my keyway slot...

No keyway? Can you post a pic of the output shaft? No keyway makes me think tapered shaft, which there aren't any clutches for afaik. But tapered shafts are used on generators, which don't have variable throttles. Now I've got myself confused.

It's the middle of the jack shaft, not tapered. I felt pretty dumb asking the throttle cable question with the experience I have

Sorry if this doesn't fit here. First time posting.

I'm also using a 6.5hp B&S Vanguard to repower a thoroughly thrashed Manco Dingo I acquired. Since the kart had already been cut and modded to an extent, I'm making some improvements before I give it to my 11yo daughter. I'm wanting to convert my 6.5 Vanguard to 12v electric start, and add some led lights for night riding as we live in the boonies. But I can't seem to find a kit for it. Any help or suggestions?

I unfortunately cant help here. I've been meaning to just hook up a 12v lightbar to the stator and haven't done it yet

for the most part there isnt any bolt on kits... Kinda an odd ball engine for that...
A Honda type will have that weak charge coils.. but in the end, better off with pull start and good batteries that you just recharge often.

Yeah I use it for ice fishing and have a spare battery for my flasher I hook the lights up to. They last a good 2 hours or plenty if time on a charge

Thanks for the replies. I too have failed to find a bolt on kit. Now I'm thinking about going old-school. I will be looking to see if I can find/fab a pulley to the flywheel and use a 12v starter/gen from a golfcart or old lawnmower. Shouldn't be too complicated... I hope...

The only problem with that, it is the engine doesnt produce a large amount of power... So idleing with the starter/geny will induce a large amount of drag, hampering performance....
