Throttle cable help...

Recently installed a throttle cable and not sure what I am doing wrong but it’s not opening the throttle completely. I connected the wire using a rod to wire nut.

Here is the position of the cable/rod at idle.



And this is at full throttle on the pedal.



The problem is with the pedal depressed all the way down the throttle only opens this much




The black mark is where it should be at full throttle.

What can I adjust?

First time installing a throttle cable... is there some trick to getting it right? Like adjusting at WOT?

You're pulling the cable at angles. On the frame will that bolt rotate to topside where it can pull straight? On the engine the cable should be on the left side of the cable clamp where that black wire is, speaking of which that black wire looks like it might be hitting the throttle arm? Might not keep it from opening but could be a surprise if it snags at some point and doesn't return to idle. That's why kill switches are always a great idea.

I would try the clamp on the engine first. Once the cable reaches that point in the pic it's pulling the throttle arm in a direction that it won't rotate.

It's limited by the length of aloud travel of the throttle rod on the cart... As you can see the return spring is fully compressed..
I'm going to guess there used to be a Briggs at one point in time installed upon this kart... From what I've seen there is a shorter throw for the throttle from idle to wot on those...
You might have to relocate the stop further back to allow more travel, to get WOT.

Any suggestions on how to relocate? Imagine welding involved?

Would cutting the spring or a shorter spring help?

The brake rod uses something like this to limit the return spring, what is this part called?

I will switch the RPM gauge black wire and throttle cable around, thanks for the tip!

I did worry about it causing issues with The throttle but all manual tests were good and rode it a few hours for the first time this weekend with no issue.

Ya a cut and re weld would do... But taking out that spring and getting a different type to attach to the pedal, would probably get the job done... If that new spring has enough to overcome resistance along the length...
When you oil the clutch... Drop some oil on the pivots/contact points, to aid in movement..

Those are called shaft collars... Come in all size bores...

Kart has a tav 2 torque a verter

What of oil should I use? 3-1 oil? Silicone?

Oh... Pardon me.. I thought it had a cent clutch... ...
Ignore that... Use NO OIL... On a TC. As I recall it has to be a dry lubricant... But check out the latest info on TC maintenance.... I don't have one on my bikes..

Move spring to yellow marked spot followed by locking collar behind it in the blue spot?

Thank you will be researching this tonight. I saw one of Kart fabs videos were we welds the springs to his chassis.

Could I just pop some springs on this or would some kind of fabricating be necessary?

Those could work... Might need to drill a small hole for it to hook into the pan...

What I was thinking/had seen used before, is using an extension spring. You can find all sorts from the plastic bins at homedepot in hardware isle.

I am embarrassed at how simple the solution was. Recently purchased a bunch of go kart hardware just to have around because I was getting tired of driving around trying to source things. Had a couple of throttle springs similar to the one that I posted earlier. I just cut it to be about half the size of the current one based on I was seeing 50% throttle.

Worked! So happy!
