So the kart I got (for free mind you) was missing some parts from the carb. Namely its missing the appropriate parts for the throttle linkage as well as the filter basket.

I was able to start the engine but could only keep it running by controlling the vacuum on the carb inlet w/ my hand. So here are some pictures of the carb after I removed it from the tank and engine. Please keep in mind. What you see in the picture is exactly how I received it I did not remove any parts from the carb.

The problem I have is that where I live there are no stores like Northern Tool that I can take the carb to and say...help whats missing :mad2: If you would please help me to know what I need to complete it that will help me when I go to the store an hour away.

Additionally, if you would please post a couple pictures of your carb (assuming its the same as mine) an how the throttle cable connection is made I would appreciate it. If I need to more clearly ask these questions please let me know.

Thank you kindly for your help.

Not sure if this is the same carb model as yours but It might give you some ideas for your throttle hookup:

You have an emissions carb, these things need to be set so rich to run ungoverned that I don't think it will run right on a kart. Find an older style 5hp carb with the big adjustment screw.

Do you mean like this one?

This is on an old Roto-tiller that was at the house I purchased. The engine is a 5hp B&S. This should bolt right onto the engine I have mounted on the kart. As a plus, I have a NIB filter basket for the above carb and I don't think there is as much rust in the above fuel tank.

Ok great thank you. As far as the above (white) motor running I'm not sure. I have yet to try and turn it over. Its been sitting in the weather for an unknown period of time. Also the cover for the pull start was off. My guess is that the starter cable return spring is broken. Out of curiosity, why do you ask?

Good thing though is that the original aluminum filter basket and cover were attached to the above (white) carb when i found it. The carb itself looks clean inside (lots of crud on the outside). All the flaps and screws seem to turn fine. I know there is spring that I took off the needle that I'll put back on there.

Since i know the black motor runs, I assume it would be prudent to just slap the white carb and fuel tank on the black motor. The carb mount holes are in the same position. Do you think I'll run into any issues w/ that?

Just give the carb off the white motor a good cleaning and throw it on, not much stops these old Briggs flattys. If all else fails you can get a carb kit for it and rebuild.

Clean and rebuild the white carb(new diaphragm, all gaskets), remember to use 2 tank-carb gaskets with a thin coating of RTV on them. They like to leak otherwise.

Great tip on the double gaskets & RTV at the tank. I did notice a leak on at the black carb/tank connection while I had the engine running.

Alright, the kid and wife will be out of town next week so hopefully I can finish this up.

Thanks for all the help. I believe I will post a thread on my progress. My daughter wants the kart pink w/ a racing stripe. That should be fun ;)
