Bad casting? Buy another piston and jug.

Around here an eBay jug/piston and $20 dc cdi even if he has to convert the pulse coil from ac to dc would be worth it. You could trade a quad that starts moves and stops for a kart/minibike/oldtrikeyoubuilt pretty easy
