Well to save money make a plan and stick to it, if you keep changing it up as you build it it will cost you, So take the time to think it through.

I like to have the major components here in front of me before building to much so I can get stuff to fit together as I'm building.
(tires/rims, engine, axles, driveline, seat, steering)

Is this your current design?

I would think it would be workable but do you know how much room you'll need for the front tires to clear the frame when you turn the wheels?
Will it have the smaller on-road type tires or will it have the larger off-road type tires?

You dont want to build a nice frame and then put it all together and find out there isnt enough clearance to turn the tires as far as you wanted/needed.

I'll second that. Don't get any further with your frame until you've broken down that ATV and have all the parts at hand.

I know were your both coming from. Thats just an idea. Ill get more detailed when i have all the peices infront of me. Then i can figure out clearance and the rest of those helpful things.

yeah plans are good for putting main ideas on paper and keeping on task, but i have always mocked and designed and fabricated things on the fly. some of my best (and some of my worst) work has been when i made myself just DO it and not overthink it. this has occasionally backfired... dont continue fabbing stuff past 2 am unless you designed it BEFORE 2am... i spent two hours fabbing an idea i had with the steering on my first cart... and it was almost completely useless. the next day i could easily tell what i had done wrong and what i could have done differently, but it was too late to be designing things that complex.

get your parts in order, arrange them on the floor and look at them. this will be your best inspiration.

also, i have found that spending time simply looking at different designs with karts is a huge help. go look up the FIRST go kart and look at all the different designs from the late 50s thru 60s and 70s. looking at how they changed things will show you where people found weaknesses in the designs and changed the frames accordingly. this will help you design you kart better, and possibly skip making the mistakes that the first kart guys did! and not to mention some of those old karts can give you really great inspiration for good looking as well as functioning designs!
