Hi guys. I'm glad to find this kart community. I've recently acquired a Manco XTK-13 that needs a little attention, and I'm looking for some pointers. This place seems perfect. My kart needed some work but it's getting there. Gotta tune the torque converter because it wants to engage a couple hundred RPM below the speed my Predator 420 is comfortable idling at. Also,. it's all gas and no (very little) brake. I really gotta get that straight and I'm sure you guys will be a big help.

Nice kart. I bet it's loud as heck. 🙉

Tons of older threads on the exalted Torque Converter and an intelligent membership here. This place is still better than Reddit or some Failbook Group.

Welcome to the forum. Aside from the back end, that looks a lot like the Manco intruder I have. Can't see your torque converter from the picture, but being a 420 I have to believe its a 40 series. OMB Warehouse ( and probably others ) sell both a stiffer spring, and a lighter weight kit for the 40 series driver. Together they will raise engagement rpm by 1000 rpm. Individually one is good for 400 and the other for 600. They will fix your problem.

Did Denny give you some Kool Aid?

Howdy & :welcome2:

Many KOOL dudes (& some gals) hang out here
&
Sounds like your torque convertor needs ta be cleaned up a bit ;)
Thanks for your advice, It's a comet 40 clone, and the stock springs engagement speed is lower than my 420's idle speed, so I've got red springs on the way.

I bought this thing half built.

How’d you know it is a Manco XTXWXYZThurteen bro? I’ve never even heard of that model. Who are you, where do you come from? 🤔😳😄

You are miles ahead of the new folks who ask for an ID and are, well, total newbs. Not knocking the newbs at all, they dive in head first not knowing a thing about small engines or Torq-A-Verters (Comet name). They “fly by the seat of their pants”.

Aha! Me thinks you left out a number….

Was an RF field engineer by trade, before I was disabled/retired and I had a passion for dual sport bikes. I also maintain my own small engine equipment so maybe I'm a newb+ instead of a standard issue newb?
it is indeed a 713E

Found an exploded-view parts list for it, which are about the only Manco product documentation readily available on the net these days. 713E, E for electric start. Is your 420’s electric start hooked up?

@Squiddy202 part #173 on the above manual shows an “impeller” on the torque converter. I think it’s for beating eggs.
Thank you for that link. The engine doesn't have electric start. I wish. The engine mount, engine and converter were all replaced by the previous owner. He never finished it, and his wife got fed up, so I saved his marriage and got the money back to her that she felt was "wasted". I've been referring to it as the divorce kart. 😅

Almost missed it but I don’t think that’s a Predator. The fuel tank, gas cap and recoil starter for example, don’t match Predator 420 parts (unless those are all custom parts).

Better get a Rotaderp 420 with electric start.

Oh,. i believe you're right. It was sold as a predator 420, but it looks like this, with a PZ30 on it.
