There seems to be a rash of people asking how to clean a carb. There are so many different types so I'm not going into how to do it but I do have some advise.

Go get a can of this! It runs about $20 and can be found at any auto parts store or even Walmart.

It comes with a nifty dunking/parts holder. Not only can you use it on carbs, but just about any metal part that needs some serious cleaning.

Word of warning though!
It will destroy any rubber seals and some plactics, so make sure you have completely disassembled and removed such parts.

After a bath in this, parts can be rinsed with water, and come out looking brand new.

I used to but that stuff by the 5 gallon bucket when I was building a lot of holleys. Good stuff. I even went as far as to coil some copper tubing in the bottom and drilled holes in it and ran regulated air to it to agitate the parts, it worked even better that way.

When the transmission shop was open we had a 120 gallon tank of it. Worked great for cleaning cases and just about everything. It was a good sinus cleaner too opening that lid. Dropping a part was always fun to retrieve.

I use my gallon sized all the time.
