I'm planning on building a go-kart over the winter, having it completed before Spring. What are some good suggestions? I have a couple of questions, so answer the following first, and then give some suggestions, please, and thank you! :D

What type of metal? (Cheap, Durable, and Light, do not say Aluminum, as I do not own an Arc-Welder, and I am not looking into paying 300$ for one from Home-Depot)
What is a good length? (From back to front)
What is a good width? (Left side to right side)
What is a good height? (From ground to chassis)
Is this a good motor? It's 49cc, so I do not need a license for it.

Where can I find 4 good tires under 75$.

EDIT: I weigh in at around 110 pounds. Would this motor push me, and the 25+ pounds of metal going into my kart? (Assuming go-kart metal all adds up to 25+)

Welcome to the forum. You're going to be best served taking some time to cruise the forum for ideas here. There's tons to draw from.

Next, you need to make a decision on an overall design. If this is your first build, I suggest a basic, ladder-frame fun kart type.

For most go karts, 49cc is nowhere near enough. Commonly, we use 5-6.5hp. I don't know what the laws are around you, but in most places go karts are illegal on public streets whether you're powered by a 25cc Weedwhacker, or a big-block V8.

Narrow down your choices, then we can advise you more accurately.

Okay, thanks. Any suggestions on which metal to use?

Yes, steel. Chrome molly if your wallet's fat, otherwise hot rolled mild steel. If you've one near, try using Metal Supermarkets for a good price on small quantities.

BTW, what's "teh" story on your screen name? Are you a fan of Jay Farrar?

How long is a piece of string? As long as you need it to be...

As toystory suggested, have a good look through the forum & even the internet for ideas, thinking about what you want your kart to do & where you intend to ride it.

Once you've narrowed down your choices, we can talk about dimensions...

Oh, it's gonna be a lot more than 25 pounds :roflol:

As said before, I wouldn't suggest to use that 49cc 2 stroke engine. I have bad experience with this. It brakes down very fast + it won't have enough power to power your gokart.

I suggest to use a Predator engine from http://www.harborfreight.com/. I've heard great things about these engines.
