I got this Dingo for free- motor was seized and the torque converter is questionable at best, the tires are dryrotted and won't hold air....It needs a complete restore.

I am considering ditching the torque converter by running the same size wheels front and rear (ditching the rear 8 inch wheels with balloon tires and going with 6 inch wheels and 145/70 6 tires)... I have seen the 6" ATV wheels on ebay for next to nothing- but they have 3 bolt holes in them- does anyone make rear hubs that also have 3 bolt holes? All of the ones I have seen at Northern Tool are 4.

I plan on running it like a standard go kart (clutch and chain-without a jackshaft..etc.) Has anyone ever done this before? Pros/Cons...The current Comet 30 series torque converter has been in the kart since the 80's and has spent most of it's life in the elements- I don't feel like spending $130+ for a torque converter....

I have a Honda gc160 (5hp) engine that I had a clutch made to fit ( the engine was almost free so the clutch was the only real expenditure).

Also does anyone know where I can ge the front upper bars of the roll cage for the Dingo...(part number 72 on the diagram- which is apparently not for sale (http://www.gokartsupply.com/286parts.htm), it is an older one that only had the engine cage- want a little bit more protection for my son....I was just going to go get a piece of electrical conduit and make the upright pieces that extend from the front to the top of the cage.

Chances are you can clean the **** out of the torque converter and have it run like new. Pics?

don't want to bother with it....

Want to run a smaller sized tire...so no need for it.

Not the whole cage...

Just the front upright bars...the rest of the cage is there.....I think the cage is there to give an appearance of safety...not very beefy- don't think the stock one would hold up to a roll over very well....

dingo roll bars

cm, I just built a cage for the rear of my Dingo and I found that the tubing on the original cage parts were reasonably strong enough to serve as some protection. Wall thickness looked to be about .083". I also added a few extra pieces of tubing to strengthen a sideways rollover. May I suggest that you use some mild steel tubing instead of the conduit. The 1" ms tubing can be bent easily with a conduit bender and is stronger and easily available.
