Hey, I have a 6.5 HF engine on my Kart rite now. My kart is fast with this motor and i have removed the governor thats about the only thing i did to it. I am wondering should I buy a bigger motor to get more speed and power or should i modify it? If i should get a bigger motor what kind of motor should i get? I am trying to make this kart powerful for mudding and speed

What kind of drive train do you have now? Torque converter, or simple centrifugal clutch? Do you currently have extreme peel-out capability, good acceleration, and low top speed? How much does the kart weigh, approximately?

the main factors here are,
Price.
how hard it is to get going.
performance.

each list is in order from best to worst:

PERFORMANCE,
used motorcycle engine/dirt bike engine/ATV engine
HEAVILY modified clone
old, lightly modified industrial engine (gov removed)

PRICE,
old, lightly modified industrial engine (gov removed)
used motorcycle engine/dirt bike engine/ATV engine
HEAVILY modified clone

EASIEST TO GET GOING,(this really depends on condition of the engines)
old, lightly modified industrial engine
used motorcycle engine/dirt bike engine/ATV engine
HEAVILY modified clone

If you chose to go to a MC or a different engine, what are your fabrication skills like? For making, a gear changer or new engine mounts?

All stuff to think about.

I was wondering if you already have a torque converter, because if you do it may not be rated for the horsepower of a bigger engine.

another thing to consider is that a large industrial engine, or maybe even the clone, could need a new clutch costing $100+, an MC engine already has a clutch (and a tranny, making it a bazillion times better)
