Ever see a six-footer still thrashing after it was completely cleaned, skinned, and headed into the freezer? Quite a memorable childhood experience.

And for those that question this... It's true. No head, skinned and gutted. The meat will writh around for a few hours.

The heads will still try to bite for hours after being separated also.

And a quick nature lesson.
3 types of snakes;
Live bearing, egg laying and then there's Rattlers. They have eggs internally then the eggs hatch inside and then birth as live.

We found one and it was kinda bumpy like it just ate. So we opened her up, lo and behold....snake eggs.

whoa! yeah my dad warned me to be careful skinning it as there could have been babies in it, luckily that was not the case, it was a juvenile rattler IMO, that being said you could see the heart still beating after it was skinned, I tossed the entrails in the old road LOL on my lot, sun fried it! still there after overnight but looks a little chewed on

I tore the skin in a few places cleaning it, I have lots to learn there and I'll try to be more careful with the next one, we're still curing about half the skin and the rattle for practice, I'll post a pic later, trying to get one aggressive trojan off my PC, posting now from my laptop

here's them pics, oh and remember THIS thread with the free generator? the nabe I share a well with is interested in backfeeding the well when monsoon storms knock out power, my HF gene is for the house, this one was just temporarily fixed with a spare Greyhound muffler while a replacement muffler is on order, fires right up! I do need to the set the governor properly though, it's supposed to run at full throttle and I think we're over revving it, but maybe not, well I ordered an inductive tach to find out

this generator does make power, but 220 outlet doesn't seem to be working, could it be as simple as loose or corroded wiring? something wrong in the generator head?

I opened the panel for the generator as I am not sure what is going on with the 220V outlet, I tested the various terminals on the back of the switch that selects 110V or 220V output, it is currently in the 220V position for this test, any idea what is going on?

added a 220V outlet to the well breaker panel so we can backfeed it in a power loss, the neighbor had about half of the parts in his hoard... I mean inventory

as for my orange geny, I got the tach and holy cow it's like 6K rpm, no wonder it is so loud

If you could find a manual for the generator, it ought to have wiring diagrams and troubleshooting procedures.

I do have the manual, haven't reviewed the electrical troubleshooting, have browsed the mechanical troubleshooting

oh yeah, that's cause its for the engine, it's not the MQ manual

trying to germinate some of these thousands of mesquite seeds since I've got an idea to make a hedge along the west and north property lines for privacy, seems the seeds I boiled for 60 seconds in a form of scarification are sprouting the best

so far my success rate of mesquite seeds is low but I'm going to keep working on it, ordered cone-tainers so I can track progress of individual seeds and different scarification methods and of different parent trees


whoa! would you look at that! progress on the fence, today I was able to set 7 posts and raise 7 panels- may not seem like much to you for a day's work but it was 106 degrees, humid from last nights monsoon, and the ground here is stupid hard, mostly caliche, by post #6 my arms were starting to cramp uncontrollably but I was almost all the way past the well and wanted to end the day past it

also check out this free score of PARTS! that's right baby - parts! my old lady's uncle gave me these parts drawers while we were in CA and they are chock full of stuff including some nice drill bits, I haven't even had time to take inventory of all of it

In hindsight, I would've never mentioned anything to the non "key neighbors". I would have quietly worked with the 2 who own the easement to get it cleared and once done, put the fence up so that at no point would anyone panic about access.

little baby mini trees, alas though, I've ordered a cone kit to scientifically and systematically grow more seeds, and document which scarification method was used, maybe try some different soil mixes

Had to bury my bulldog Friday night, I miss him so much. Instead of crying all day Saturday my oldest daughter and I focused on knocking out some more fence.

We got the controversial corner finished. Some sections of the fence so far look good, others look like crap, the panels dont hold a straight line very well, in hindsight maybe I should've spent more on chain link, or spent the same and wrapped the posts with no climb fencing. Oh well, I said it before- this isn't for aesthetics, its for establishing my lot and it has done that.

Now my challenge is finding or more likely fabricating the driveway gate. In the permit I described a 40' gate, in my mind I thought I'd have 2 20' sections that either slide or swing open. After lots of thought I believe slide is the best choice since I've got to turn in from the street through the 40' opening (while towing the toy hauler) then cut across driveway to backyard, swing gates would restrict the area for cutting across driveway.

Ultimately we would like automatic gates, once I found out how expensive slide gate motors are I researched "DIY" and found this clip. Not the first time arduino has been a potential solution to my challenges so I decided it was time to learn it. Both daughters expressed an interest in learning too so I ordered a large starter kit from Amazon, should be here today. If I can get a decent understanding of it, I think it would be cool to program the gate to open just enough for the Dyna, the truck, then all the way.

Glad to see you doing well. I got such crappy internet here in Texas I rarely bother but this has been a fun read ( the parts I read ).
You gotta love being out of the city. I know I sure do.
Here it is about 20 minutes to “town” and that “town” is pop. 22,000.

I’ve always thought arduino would be fun but to me it seems pretty expensive in a sense. I’ve programmed a fair amount in C+(or was it C++), it’s pretty close to what arduino uses, and a tiny bit in arduino.

All I can say is don’t forget the semicolons!
