im not painting my seat learned my lesson on that, all paints been removed from there, and the wheels will be returned to normal tho, but can i use another sprocket as a space without harming anything?

washers would be the better option, and would be well within your $5.00 budget.

i would get or make an air filter considering the amount of money u got.

as long as its high flow it wont really affect performance. no filter may be fine for a while but u dont want all that dirt and crap getting sucked in.

also sometimes after the engine is rode a little, it dosent like to idle or anything, it decides to then die off unless given gas, and after i kill it while its hot, it just dosent want to restart, at all, is this possibly the gas cap? it has 4 holes in it, but there blocked with some little peice of somthing i cant tell what, this is the kind of carb that pulls the fuel up from the tank. and also, after seconds, the engine gets scorching hot very fast, why causes this?
edit, were thesse even supposed to vent? im seeing on diffrent forums that it needed the vaccum to pull gas up the carb

i think that the straw is under the gas level. but it may need the vaccum because it pushes air out the other straw in order to force up the second? idk look up on google how a 5hp briggs carb works.

well made sure the gas cap was vented, filled her up, and shes running pretty ok, except when im riding i have to act like it has gears, i have to pull in the throttle then let off and do it again to get up to max speed, hmm, and the spring in the pull start is driving my crazy, it sounds terrible, i had someone take a video of me riding it down the road, here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbP0kIBR69g

If your talking about a screeching sound coming from the engine, its not the spring, its the starter clutch.

Its from a lack of lubrication. i just did this about 2 weeks ago. You'll need to take the recoil cover off to get to the starter clutch. It looks like this:

Use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the seal/ring around the shaft. There are 6 steel balls behind this seal. They may fall out when you get the seal off, so make sure to keep your hand under it to catch them. Get all 6 of the balls out and clean them a little. The clutch shaft will come off easily. Take that off and clean it. That squeal is caused by a lack of lubrication between the crankshaft and the clutch, so you need to put some oil on the end of the crankshaft and on the inside of the starter clutch shaft. Put it back together, starting with the clutch shaft. Its a PITA to get those balls to stay in, but its easier if you have the engine leaning back a little. Once you have the balls in the right place (its obvious where they go) put the seal back on. Test it by turning the starter clutch both ways. It should only be able to turn one way. Put everything else back on and your done.

ill be taking care of that later, when i get a free day, tommarow im going to get chain broken, im putting it to a 7:1 ratio instead of the 4:1 because im getting barley any acceleration, i know im going to loose top speed, but its better than barley any acceleration

also, because im working on my top speed, figuring it out, how many rpm does this old briggs 5 hp flat head give out? its got a canister muffler but besides that its all stock, it is un governed, and now has a 10 tooth clutch and 72 tooth sprocket, how much speed would that give out? i know its not gonna have the same top speed, but i want it to be as fast still

ungoverned, around 5k-5,500 when its revved high. use the gear ratio calc to determine speed.

if you dont have grease, just put some motor oil in there. even if it means to dip your finger into the crank case to put some on the shaft.. just anything to keep it from making so much noise.

I went with 5500 because i like to ride it wide, I feel safer with that then my clone, so at that I'm about 34. It says from my old ratio 58 but It never got there, due to barley any acceleration so I think 34 and nice acceleration is actually pretty nice, and it'll have more tourqe which means better wheelies
