The 12hp tecumseh and an idea I wasn’t sure I could even pull off in the first place.

Well it all started as an $80 wheel horse.. I ripped everything I wanted and sold the leftovers for $90.. the tecumseh is a .10 over 12hp electric start with a 20amp charging system and it’s even SSI! So major package all wrapped up into one.

Skip ahead a little bit and I busted two head bolts getting it tore down.

Apocalypse style tear down went as planned but the tear down is always easy right??

Got the crank milled from 1 1/4 to 1” so I could fit a clutch.

Get those busted head bolts drilled and tapped. I mean I spent the $40 to get the crank milled so I have to at least try right?

No no now it’s all back together but the question is will it run?

It turned over twice and fired up like it was never taken out of service. idles like a dream and throttle response is nice and crisp with the mikuni. No knocks or any funny business. just a running tecumseh. I cannot believe I put it back together and it runs the way it does.

Nice work! Those old cast iron tecumsehs are brutes, super durable.

Id put them at or above a k-series kohler, and briggs.

Who else made a small engine with taper roller bearings on the crank?
Wayyyyy overbuilt.
