that mower about killed me!

Ok so i was cleaning/test a riding mower my friend just got. craftsman 15.5hp. i was looking at and saw it had 6 gears.
so i started it up. went through 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th then i got to 6.when i shifted to 6 that mower took off like a bat out of he//! it about slung me off!
1-5 gears where fine. but 6 was insane fast for an un-modded mower.

why would it do that?

If you ever figure out why yours is so fast let me know. I have to ride my MTD/15.5hp down the alley and all the way around the block to mow my front yard and it'll only go about 10mph in 6th.
I'd like it to go 20 too, although it doesn't steer or stop worth a crap at 10

That's what the fast gear is for. You choose a speed for the thickness of the grass, and then there's one extra fast gear for moving the mower quickly while not cutting.

I gave my kids a Crapsman 15hp to play with. 6th gear is proportionally faster than the first 5, so I don't know... Got a pic? I'm curious. Here's mine-

Yeah- With no deck. I felt bad that the kart wasn't done yet, and the boys were itching to drive. The one on the mower is my younger son. My neighbour was moving, and sold me the machine for what he paid for the new battery for it (about $40CDN). While they were learning, I rigged a wireless remote kill so that I could stop them from doing something dumb. Yelling over a mower engine from a distance doesn't work...
