Hi, I am very new to the Go-Kart scene and am seeking some advice. I picked up a Yerf Dog kart the other day with a Tecumseh OHH60 Power sport engine on it (Not running at the time). I knew that the carb was the problem as when i removed the float there was 0 gas in it. So anyways, I replaced the Carb and fuel lines and cleaned the gas tank. The engine now runs great. My problem is the throttle linkage. When I got the kart the previous owner had just directly connected the throttle cable to the carb butterfly by bending the piece that touches the idle adjust screw. There was another destroyed spring just hanging off of the carb. There is a spring lever attached to the engine right next to the air intake. Nothing is connecting it to the carb (i think it probably should). Can anybody explain to me how to correctly hook up the throttle? When i got the engine running it had no belt and I just moved the butterfly by hand. Again sorry for my inexperience and thanks for any advice!

If you at planning on bypassing the governor, it's been recommended to me by people here, to remove it completely. I still have to remove it from my Briggs motor, but I haven't run it on my kart yet. This does involve opening up the crank case, but it's not complicated. Without the governor, there is nothing to stop you from over revving the engine without some sort of throttle stop and a way to monitor the rpms, such as a tiny tach. They're cheap. I ordered one off of amazon. The other option is to connect all the linkage correctly as someone else has already suggested.

So in closer examining the kart I think that the governor might have been completely removed already. When I take off the air filter I don't see any thing that looks like the governor piece with the 5 holes in a row. Just a bunch of random pieces connected to the spring arm... How would I tell what is going on? I can also post pictures if it would help.

YOUR problem is likely at the accelerator pedal. .......

Meaning the spring on the accelerator pedal should pull the linkage back to idle......the kart should not move until the accelerator pedal is pushed.....
I don't have a pic, but have a look if the cable is being returned by the pedal. The spring might pull the pedal back, but the cable could be stuck somewhere. Are there sharp bends in the cable on the way to the engine? Try lubricate the cable and see if that helps. Also have a look to see if the spring on the engine is pulling the butterfly back closed when you let off the gas
