Tecumseh RPM Increase Help Needed

Hello all, I just replaced the throtle cable and now that it moves to the full open position the cart runs great, unfortunatelly I have noticed that my RPM sometimes drops after I have run for a few mins wide open. I think it has something to do with the governer and would like to find out if I am correct. So would I just disconect the gov spring to see if thats what holding back the RPM? I know if I want to remove it permanently, there is more invorved, but for now I would like to see if this is the problem! Would also like to know where I can purchase a carb rebuild kit for this model engine. Thanks in advance, I've found a lot of help here so far just by seaarching, this time I really need the advice.

slow down there, dont go exactley to the gov, make sure its not fuel starvation, make sure its getting gas, is it an adjustable carb?

Not sure, it has a primer bulb, I am taking it to the garage where there is some light as I want to fix this tonight if poss....

make sure theres enough gas in the tank. and that the carb is getting it, and does the carb have a fixed nut on the bottom being a jet or an adjustable needle like end?

The gas tank is full, the bowl has a nut on the bottom, looks like 1/2" or 9/16". I guess I should take that off and see what's happening when the float is up and down?

take off your fuel line, get a bucket under that nut. and get it out, take the whole carb off and give it a great cleaning, bighead says boil them in lemon juice

Do you reccomend rebuilding the card seeing that I'm taking it off, or just clean it real well. I have plenty of carb cleaner left over from another motor and carb rebuild. I guess a good cleaning inside and out can't hurt. What about the governer, I read that replacing the spring with a tighter one could raise the RPM, but that seems the opposite if removing the spring makes it spin faster, what do you think??

just give it a good clean, you know shake the float and make everything good, just clean and if it needs parts rebuild, and you have a bit of wrong information, on an engine a governor limits the engine to 3600 rpm, you cant change springs, only remove the governor and to do that, your going to need more money, for parts to withstand the extra rpm.

you can remove the governor for free.

RPM will be around 4000-4500 instead of 3600. put in thicker valve springs and you can get to about 5000-5500. add a tillotson carb and youll get even higher, maybe 6000-6500-7000 or more.

heres what i go by.........

keeping the engine stock with just removed governor, you should be ok. with internals not breaking.

add thicker valve springs and you need to be careful or else the con rod or camshaft can blow easily.

add a better carb plus valve springs and go WOT, youll probably snap the connecting rod in no time.

here is a pic of my friends clone, he put in thicker valve springs and his stock camshaft didnt like it.

Yep lemon Juice is the ticket. I have only needed a carb kit a few times after many carb cleanings. And thats when I broke something.

As far as the carb being your problem I am not sure. Boil it will never hurt.

I put bigger springs in my BSR clone engine and it love it. Had to jet up lots though.

Nope, not the case, you can swap springs to change the governor engagement speed (or adjust throttle arm travel). The centrifugal governor (inside the block) works against the spring tension between the governor arm and the throttle. I may do a writeup of this next time I have to hook up a throttle. Although I do agree you want beefier parts if you do a significant change.

i didnt know that badot, but i would get them anyway because i wouldnt feel to save riding around knowing if i push the throttle to far i could get a free hole inside of my block and a body part
