Tecumseh questions

I have a couple of questions about a Tecumseh OHH60 that I'm fixin' up. The first is, does anyone know when Tecumseh started making the OHH series engines? I found a Tecumseh service manual that seems to think that the governor that was used in my engine was discontinued in August of 1982. And the month and year of the decade on the engine seem to think that it was made in June of the 2nd year of the decade. So that might be correct, but I'd like to know, for sure, if these engines were built then. The second is, is it safe to use a light duty pressure washer (2400 psi) to clean the engine once it's disassembled?

I know that I'm going to get all kinds of feedback saying that I should fix up a briggs or something other than a Tecumseh, but the only experience I've had with a briggs wasn't very good. This Tecumseh moved my Ken bar Streaker one seater, with 22" tires and 6:1 gearing with a 30 series 6" driven. And yet the briggs intek I have (the one the animal is based on), which isn't that old, has no compression, a shot bore, and needs $108 of parts to run. And, believe it or not, the pressure washer pump that was bolted to it still works like new.

Hey dude, I'm not one of those people. I like Tecumseh engines of every stripe.

The Tec OHV engines have a cylinder orientation that's nearly vertical, or more so than the clones so it really fits these older yard karts and mini bikes like a glove. I mean it has a more compact "footprint" for the mounting plate.

I am not sure on the date of introduction of the OHV Tecumsehs but I figure late 80's/early 90's. I think they were ahead of Briggs because they were still pumping out the flathead. Don't quote me on that.

EDIT--those guys at the Oldminibikes forum would likely know. They really don't have any engine prejudices over there.

Thanks man, I'll go check with them. And I know, I had the Tecumseh on a bench when I took
a predator 212 off one of my karts, And I couldn't believe the difference, in size and weight. Although I do like the dual main ball bearing of the predators.

I'm another that doesn't care about name too much, I have one of the ohv techumseh power sport engines, I think with a carb rebuild it should run. I'll throw it on a frame till it blows up just like any other engine, only preference I guess I have is in the sound of a strong briggs, other than that, whatever will run it!

I like my briggs flatheads, but I do have 1.5 tecumseh ohh60's one in parts and another that I have on a yellow jacket go kart. Only thing I didn't like was the torque. people have problems with the carbs but I took mine apart and put it back together and it's been fine.
