Trying to figure out what type of clutch I need to order for this havnt taken anything apart yet it’s a 10 tooth sprocket so far unsure of chain size couldn’t find any markings with it still on the motor. Pretty sure the kart is a Murray brand. Got my kart running for Christmas for the kids ran for about 20-30 min and believe the clutch went out on it.also seemed as if the clutch was possibly engaged at all times wheel kept spinning no matter what & seemed like the throttle linkage & all isn’t sticking & go back to where it should when letting off the gas.rear tires currently using are
15x6.00-6. Also if there is a specific way the old clutch needs to be removed & new one installed any help would be appreciated want to get this running again asap

You need a 30 series CVT TAV II. A clutch will not play nice with a 16” tall tire off road. (Concrete or asphalt)

Is that the best option just looking to let kids ride it around backyard & would that be transferring it over to a belt drive with that 30 series ?

A 30 series torque converter uses a belt between the clutches ( which function as
an automatic transmission ) and then a chain to transfer power to the wheels. If the rollers on the chain are 3/8" apart (center to center) then it's a #35. If they are
1/2" then it's a #420. When you buy a new 30 series torque converter they normally come with both kinds. A torque converter is the only way to go, especially for off road use of any kind, and even more so with kids where there is a lot of on and off throttle use.

I have a brand new predator engine in back of my car from the sale harbor frieght sale last week would that be an cheaper/easier to swap onto the cart or would still need same 30 series kit for that also.

If I was to put the new predator 212 engine in any idea outside of the torque concrete kit would I also need the mounting plate adapter or 71” throttle cable being it’s a Murray kart.just want to make sure I order everything at once so I’m not waiting around on more parts.thanks

Either engine will work fine. Just go onto Amazon and type in 30 series torque converter. It will come as a complete kit. The bolts that usually come with it to mount the plate to the engine are the wrong ones most of the time. You need
5/16 X 24. They practically always come in a metric size. If you change engines there's a good chance you will also need to change throttle cables. Nobody can tell you ahead of time exactly which parts you may or may not need. For a father trying to get a kart running for his own child, it sure sounds like you don't want to put much effort into it. Karts can be VERY time consuming, and need constant tinkering with. Are you sure that you are ready for that.

It sounds like you have all kinds of issues that didn't get addressed.

You must ensure the throttle cable isn't binding or getting stuck and not returning to idle. It should ideally have a return spring on the pedal and a return spring on the engine so that when the pedal releases, it snaps back and allows the engine to go to idle speed and the clutch disengages. Keep the throttle cable lubed. They have cable lubricating sleeves (for motorcyclists) for this or just take care to dribble a decent oil down the cable sheath.

A clutch is probably fine for that kart. The rear wheels are not that big, they're not big balloon ATC tires and as long as you use the clutch properly and the gear ratio is sufficient it should work ok. If you lift the rear wheels off the ground while the engine is running at idle and the wheels start slowly turning, well that is normal because the rotational forces from the PTO shaft acting upon the clutch bearing naturally starts to make the clutch freewheel. The clutch bell/sprocket starts turning and then the chain, and then the wheels. If the engine idle speed is set properly you should be able to stop the wheels from turning with your bare hands or they usually stop once they hit the ground. Some go karts actually have a parking brake for stopping on hills and to counteract the clutch free-wheeling.

The real issue is if the kart moves off at speed with no one in it. That could mean that your kids smoked the clutch, meaning it's always engaged and this occurred possibly by "riding" both pedals at the same time (gas and brake) or coasting around at half throttle with the clutch slipping all the time. That creates a lot of heat by friction which will fuse the clutch shoes to the clutch housing (or bell).

Thanks for the info I ended putting the new predator engine in over the weekend fires up fine, got to get a spring for the throttle return just waiting on few parts to show up.
