Tecumseh OHH60-71107C to Predator

Hi All,

I've never swapped engines for a go kart before. Would be my first time. I'd like to do this for a friends son, as the current engine is pretty much shot. I've been researching the Predator Engines and have had success with them in the past (used the smallest 79cc they had to replace the engine on a small Toro). You can get a 6.5HP Predator from HF for around $120, but I'm not sure how to make this be a direct replacement. Forgive my terminology, but this old Tecumseh Engine appears to have 2 clutches or something? I'm not familiar at all with this so I definitely could use some guidance .

Anyone have any experience swapping engines? I'd really like to know if I can make this Predator fit?

ok going with the predator, is just a straight bolt on swap, small piece of pipe for a spacer behind the driven and a longer bolt for the center

Just need to know exactly what I'm up against so I can tell the owner how much she's going to have to spend in parts.

yours does not have a backing plate so just use the ome that's on it on the predator

After looking at that older Tecumseh engine more carefully, it looks like a piece is welded to the frame for that driven clutch, and I'll have to use the TC kit for the Predator Engine. I don't think this older one can be used on the predator.

I'm probably gonna have to grind that piece off to make clearance for the Predator Engine. Hopefully I won't run into any other clearance issues! I'm hoping this frame will have enough room.

If I'm totally off on this, let me know.............but that's what it looks like to me.

Like I mentioned, this will be my 1st try at swapping engines for a go kart.

No dont cut it off...Remove and Install the new motor. Then mount the driver to the new motor(unless the Tec is a different shaft size), and adjust to the proper center-to-center distance for the belt.
I also believe that is a removable piece that the motor mounts and adjusts to...

Take the driver clutch off the tecumseh, then belt. Undo the 4 nuts holding on the engine(on the top) and if the throttle cable and killswitch are disconnected you can pull it off. Reverse the order when putting the predator on. And DON'T CUT THE PLATE!

Ok guys, here's the old Tecumseh vs Predator 212CC. Not sure how I'm going to make this work with the old TC. The old plate is basically attached to this old motor via welds, like it was some custom job for the Tecumseh Engine.

I must be missing something, but looks like gonna have to buy the TC for the 212CC Predator. I don't see any way of making it work.

Dude! Unbolt the tech from the plate, I highly doubt it’s welded, wbu would anyone weld aluminum to Steele, and if it’s the bolts that are welded, well then cut those suckers and poll them out. It may take some time but trust me, that’s a better and smoother tc than most cheap ones you find out there on the inter webs

I got the plate off........good to go now! Rebolted on frame and all good........but now I'm having issues with the throttle setup. Got the cable tightened up, but it doesn't return to idle when you release the gas peddle. I've taken all the slack out of the cable too. When I actuate the throttle lever with my finger, it returns to idle with no problem??? This is all new to me......not sure whats going on?

Should I reuse ALL of the spacers that were used on the old Tecumeh TC? (Comet Clutch). Like I said, never done this before. Not sure about this clutching and alignment. Looks like things need to be realigned again.

There is a nut that is the pivot under the airbox loosen it till it feels right then put some oil on it also quick question can you read or just stubborn you can reuse the WHOLE torque converter without cutting anything

Guys, no need to be harsh here. I came here for help, so if you've got sarcastic comments, then feel free to keep them to yourself or don't even bother commenting. Don't want it, don't need it.

Now, yes I loosened up that bolt and the throttle assembly moves freely. As I mentioned, it snaps back just fine with finger action, but not so well with the cable. Do these throttle cables wear out? Maybe just time for a new one?

We aren’t meaning to be harsh but we are just telling you straight facts. And if you took my comment as sarcastic I wasn’t meaning it to be, I was literally saying you only have to use as many spacers as it takes to keep it in line, as it can be different for everyone

Gib- The way you have the throttle cable setup to the throttle lever/plate... is too much of an angle.. as you can see the sheath is bent and exposed...
That needs to be much more gradual arc... maybe a slight wrap around the tank.. but not straight down as you have it...

In all of my builds I tend to add another spring to the throttle arm as this adds a more positive return to the throttle in case of something happening, and also just helping the works return back to idle...
Here in my other bike I have it hooked to the fan cover from the arm( a small hole drilled in the end).

I will also add in this pic, you can see the degree arc I have used to setup my throttle cable, something to the effect can be used, and Id almost recommend to do the same way if you can rout the cable so from the back of the motor...
