I have a 6hp power sport tecumseh engine, hard to get cranked, it idles for 15-20 seconds then dies unless the throttle is played with, even after I cleaned the carburetor completely. What could be the culprit of it being so hard to keep running?

How thorough did you clean the carb? Clean out all the jets with a wire piece? Compressed air? Could still be clogged even though you cleaned it once.

New plug? Coil? maybe a bit extreme, I had a honda do something similar when the coil was bad...

..get some guitar sting and poke out all the holes you can find, air pressure may not get it as good.

I blew out the jets with carb cleaner and all the holes I could find in the carb. I tried a new spark plug an that wasn't the problem

Dirt / varnish in the idle passages. If it were valves or ignition it would be constant (ie not run at all), not run for awhile and die.

The carb needs to be CLEAN, as in SPOTLESS. Try boiling it in lemon juice, sounds silly but it works.
