I have an old dingo with 10 hp tecumseh. previous owner removed some parts (no idea why). The electric starter works fine when connected with booster cable to starter battery post, I was just going to use an old Ford starter solenoid for that. There are 2 wires coming our from flywheel cover one red and one green. At idle the red puts out 14 volts AC and 0.6 volts DC, I assume I need a diode or rectifier, I have a diode from a from Honda GX 270, would it work? Was the original diode under the flywheel shroud or was it external. Is green is for killing the engine (grounding out coil)?

a diode is all you need, and it's usually external inline (just a shrinkwrap) on most engines (I have no idea about tecumseh, but I'd assume it's just the same.
