While servicing the TC, I noticed a threaded 1/2" hole in the block about an inch or two back from the driver cluth. Should this hole be plugged with something? Looks like it leads right in to the engine and could let in trash and dirt. Thanks

Well, Russ, I'm sure you're right, just wonder whether from casting or for mounting, you'd think they would plug it.

russ is right... if it was leading into the crank case, even if its above the oil level, over time alot of oil would have leaked out all over the engine and TC. and make a mess.

no its probably a place to put a little rod that sticks out to use a belt tensioner. to stop it from throwing a belt off while tilling. i wouldn't worry about it.

it probably is..... a few engines i have got have had those guards bolted up to them

especially snowblowers have these 4 bolt plates.
