Hey guys,
I'm moving up to San Carlos CA, about 10 or so miles outta standford. I was wondering if I could meet someone to help me with a quick project, me almost 12. Anyone?

Yes :) that's why I need help.
I'm smart, working on a motorized bicycle project, and I collect and restore vintage bikes. Im not a rich kid that wants a go kart. My plan was to make it a tapole trike using bicycle parts.

I dont want to discourage anyone, but do your parents know that you are meeting a complete stranger to put together a go kart?

Do your parents know that you are going to be running tools that could very well cripple you for life?

I am sorry, but I think that 12 might be a tad young to partake in this undertaking. Its just dangerous, in both injury and meeting someone that you dont know....

I'm afraid I gotta get on board with Flexi. I put some thought into it, and if one of my sons (8 and 10 right now) was about to do the same, I'd s**t. Then again, if it was my sons, they'd be doing it with me.
Any chance you've got a father, older brother, uncle, or trusted family friend that can help you with this thing?

I wasnt concerned with a welder... since thats a small burn...

But have you ever seen what an abrasive wheel can do to you, shattered or intact? Or hows about a metal bandsaw? Nasty injuries....

That was what I was concerned with.... Parental supervision is for their piece of mind... :surrender:... Parent watching or not, you could still cut your hand off....

Trust me, you dont want to ask for some random stranger online to come help you in real life. Especially at 12. Luckily i dont think there are any creepers on this forum, but you never know.

My parents are divoriced and even so neither one knows anythig about motors or go karts, I only have a twin bro addicted to video games, since were moving I don't know anyone nerby. In Florida I met a guy with a motorizedbike shop and my mom said it's to bad I dont live there or else I could work with him. I guess If I can build te cart and if anyone nerby can look at it and giver
pointers.... I don't know.....what would you do if you wanted to get into go karting but knew nothing or anyone nerby to help you....

If you don't have the tools your best bet would to buy a kart and fix it up and learn everything you can about them

Agreed... or buy some cheap ones(obviously an angle grinder and welder/OA are minimal..)

But you could get a nice fixer-upper for perhaps $100-200... or a new one for a few hundred more..... and then when that gets old, and when you get older, then fix it up...

Like me, I am 15, but the only reason that I am willing to undertake the task, is because I have worked around tools and machines all my life, constantly building stuff... But, it honestly sounds like you haven't, and are just doing it for a rainy day project....

My advice, wait until atleast High School, when you can find out the formulas that you will need, and be able to comprehend the basics...
