tav2 vs clone

About to pull the trigger on a tc and am leaning twoards a real comet tav2. Is the real deal worth the price over all the clones? If not worth the price difference what clone brand/seller shall I look for?

I've got a clone, but not tested fully yet. Seems to work? Belt looks good. Build quality seems okay. And i work in a Global industrialization department, i see a lot of assembled product. All the parts came in the box only issue was the extra metric bolts for mounting to the engine, and the predator i have is SAE. so i had to go pick up some SAE bolts to mount onto my engine. But you may have metric on your engine? i didn't read anything on your motor? or see any images? We need pics! Here ill start.

I went through the same dilemma when I replaced the TC on my Murray. I went with the clone and it's been trouble free so far. One season on it.

Clone TC is fine. Just get a genuine belt

Yep mine is 3 years now on the clone. No issues here either. It was from BMI karts.

the only problems I have had with a clone tc is that it comes with a cheap belt, and the mounting plate it comes with is cheap; it bent (ever so slightly, but noticeably) after some hard riding. This made me angry, for it was on a 5 hp briggs (theyre supposed to be rated up to 8). Other than that, go for it. It was a huge improvement to my go kart, and it still works great (just with a different jackshaft). I got it from ebay

I've used both a knock-off (clone makes me think of an engine) and a Comet. Both on the same mini bike. I have the knock-off installed and will probably use the Comet in a build I'll sell.

I'll sell you a used Comet for the price of a new knockoff (plus shipping).
But you can probably tell, the knock-off is fine.

Hey Bob. I've seen comet videos where guys had to do a lot of mods to get them on a clone. Grinding, cutting off fins etc.
Are the comets still this way?

No bosses on the bearing holder thing.
IIRC it bolts right on to the engine.
The issue is when you try to put the Engine / TC on a lot of frames.
On the Honda / clone (vs Tecumseh it originally came on) I had the common angle issue where the TC slants into the frame.
The clone engine needed to be lifted for the TC to clear the frame.

I think some people slot the holes to adjust the angle of the dangle, instead of lifting the engine.

I know, I know, I know.....

BUT in our little go kart world, the word "Clone" just seems to be designated for Engines. At least in my messed up head.

No Context: I think evil twins.
Go Kart Context: I think engines.
This Thread Context: Clone is correct, but it is Halloween and I've always wanted twins.

I have the knock off from Ebay in my 212cc golf cart with no problems, but my buddy put one in his kids 212cc go kart, after 2 weeks, the belt started fraying due to many hard launches, other than that it's worked fine
