This seems odd to me. The Chinese TAV2 backplate is the same piece for the 3/4" and 1" kits. The only difference is the driver... I cant believe it doesn't fit the face of the motor though. I am pretty sure a TAV2 can fit on any standard horizontal shaft motor, even a Predator 13HP or a GX390...

How unfortunate ... *gg*

The Lifan 168 (gx200 clone) has a mounting bolthole circle of 92mm;
which the backplate allows.. it also allows a 5" BHC (127mm)
the Lifan 177 (gx270) clone that you have has a BHC of 113mm...
just right down the middle...

You could (well maybe) drill new holes to the backplate and call it a day..
or you return the series 30 and get a series 40.

well you could as well buy a jackshaftkit and install a series30 without the backplate... but, actually you still would want a series 40 in the end I guess ;)

Thank you for clearing that up. That really helps. I figured I would have to drill new holes. Another question, I can't find any series 40s. Where can I find them, and what is the difference between that an the 30?

Hmmm I gave you a link address to one on ebay. I'll post it again.
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...y.com/itm/GO-KART- TORQ...rue&rmvSB=true

Thats the same one I have..
And **** no Im not paying 370 bucks for the 40. Ill just make do with what I have
I did a mockup with the tav on the engine. Belt alignment seems to be a bit off so I will have to cut the spacer or use washers. Anyone else have to do that?

 Ooops, I'm terribly sorry about that. I know what I searched for, but e-bay knows better I guess. I should have caught that. Sorry again for being stupid. I was sure that they had some 40 series in the same pricing, but maybe I misread something the other day when I was looking out there.

EDIT: So I wonder why all the 1" 40 series sets are only the driver and driven pieces with no backing plate? You apparently have to use a jackshaft AND buy your own belt and it still costs $150 or so:

Are the backing plates the same?

The ones that I find don't have any backing plate, just the pulley parts. Somebody posted that the (comet kits?) had the same bolt patterns, but from what sid says, that would seem kinda unlikely, but I have no idea myself. The last thing that I owned that had a TC on it was a very long time about (almost 40 years).

I think I see how I got confused on the e-bay items, the chain size is 40 but the "series" is 30.

simple reason is that a series 40 -being a symmetrical setup- normally is mounted with an inboard driven, as opposed to the outboard driven unit of a asymmetrical series 30.

And, with an inboard driven unit, you can't just add a plate, since the belt would NEVER line up.

GPS sells a series40 kit with a steel backplate and a reverse spring to outboard mount the driven..

honestly, that sounds fishy to me, since no matter what way you look at it, at one point or another the belt will NOT be inline with both pullies.. (it can't be with a fixed outboard driven)
I think the main reason why GTC removed every trace of their attempt offering a TAV Kit with a series 40.

Aaanyways...
No, there are different backplates (basically two) one for low power low torque stuff (mini bikes up to 5hp mostly) which is a small bend steel plate, and the cast one you have.

Not mentioning the custom giant steel one GPS sells in their kit.
which is the ONLY one that should at least fit your engine.
I wouldn't use it at all, since a fixed outboard series40 driven is completely against
my strong beliefs...
but that might just be me...

PS maybe you should buy a different engine instead? you can always resell yours, can't you?

Any personal history with that link? 'Cause trust me, we've had people get righteously P.O.if the link provided was BS.......

Well since gopowersports is a member here, and other members have used then in the past,.I do believe Poboy is one of the members that have used them, seeing as I do recall he said he lives close to them. On top of that I've ordered parts from the site in the passed. So I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet as to it not being BS.

Also that's a complete kit. It just makes it easier to link that then it is to link every piece on ebay, or sort though Google results for it.

If you have problems with the link or site, then by all means take that up with them: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=30321

I haven't ordered online from them, but been to their store in Keller twice and they're a great bunch of guys. Others have raved about their track here in Ft. Worth...(in relation to parts and service), although I haven't been there.

I can't imagine them peddling anything that was less than top shelf.

I couldn't remember if you said you had ordered online before (and couldn't imagine you ordering online as you live so close, would be a waste)

Either way I've had good dealings, and have heard good things as well. On top of that I had just saw the link in our own forum like last week, and it stuck in my mind because it's the only 40 series I've seen that had a backing plate, and it was all a complete kit....soooo yup stuck in my mind lol.

As for TC's I've only had dealings with one before, and it was a 30 series on a 7hp. So as far as 40 series and what's what, idk. All I know is what I've read, and that's only really pertaining to to hp ratings and such.

So I offered what little I know, and the only full kit link that I remembered off the top of my head, in hopes to help lol.

I have a Manco Dingo myself and I plan to use a eBay Comet 40 knockoff on it. I already run an eBay TAV2 on 2 different karts. One is a 8HP street style kart and the other is mounted on another 8HP Dingo. The TAV2 on a Dingo is a terrible match due to the smaller driven pulley and reduces take-off torque with the large 22" tires.

I currently have a Comet 30 jackshaft setup on it now, but I switched the engine out with a larger unit and now going to run a Comet 40 on that jackshaft with a Predator 420cc. $109 for the kit and $20 for a belt is not a bad deal.

Don't worry, be happy.......

Just to help clear up a point of confusion, symmetrical V/S speed drives usually only have the drive belt running in a straight line when the drive is ~in the middle of its range. When at one end or the other, the belt will look like it's out of alignment when it actually isn't

Its normal, and the belt's are engineered to run that way. As long as you follow the OEM's instructions on how to set up the unit you have, you should be fine. This is for symmetrical V belt drive's only. Asymmetrical belt drive's need to have the vertical pully faces in line with each other, and the belt will run in line at all times.
