OK, have a question.

Murray Hard Drive. HF Clone engine with a few mods. We put larger tires on it than stock. ATV 16x8-7 tires. This thing was seriously abused by the former owners and my Buddy and I resurrected it. It has a shudder when taking off from a stop. The clutch is fairly whipped and we figure with the taller tire a TAV might be a better way to go. It currently has a jackshaft with a 9.36 ratio.

If we go the TAV route what is a recommended ratio after the TAV?

TIA,
Tim

OK. great. Probably go somewhere in the 5.4 range. 10 tooth behind the driven pulley and 54 on the axle. Should give the best of both worlds with it being a more off-road style kart.

Thanks again.

I agree with toystory. 5.4:1 would theoretically put you with 32mph governed, and you should get reasonable acceleration.

a question from me, have you removed the governor? if not back out the throttle stop screw, it makes a little difference. and to r_chez i see how you got 32, but its theortical.with a 50 tooth sprocket, a pretty much stock clone ( throttle stop screw out ) , 19 inch tires, and a TAV my baja has amazing acceleration and tops around 47mph, i say go with a 50 tooth, it works out just fine with acceleration and speed

Kendelrk are you saying you have 50 tooth axle - 10 tooth after TAV?

I have 6:1 gearing on my kart with 19" tyres and a comet 40. Acceleration is just satisfactory on hills. Gx200 clone.
I hope to change to 7:1 or higher.

Your Baja is much lighter.
If no hills 50t would probably be fine. However, it really depends what you are doing with the kart.
Another option is gear with a 60t and remove the governor.
